Any pandits who can comment on the usage of food colors ?

I read that certain countries strictly regulate the use of food colors.

We never use food colors in our daily preparations, but indian sweets 've always got those festive looks...and we've been eating 'em without any issues.

I want to prepare pineapple sheera which has that rich orange look and am thinking of buying (dont know where) "saffron color".

Suggestions anyone?

You can buy food colours from any grocery store.

They are available as powder or as liquids. If you are preparing stuff in bulk / industrial use powder turns out cheaper. For weekend cooking, liquid colours are good enough.

All colours sold there are safe to be used in foods. Any orange colour will do. There may be a few orange shades available.
