One question in my mind from last few weeks and anyone who is living here for long time can tell me. Why abcd kids in Canada especially in Vancouver are more involve in crime, prostitution, drugs, car break-in and lot of other crimes a lot than abcd kids in USA? There was article in TOI couple of weeks before about Indian girls prostitution in Vancouver. Recently a Vancouver guy arrested for drug case in India.

One thing I can think here mostly people who came long time back are from small town, doing low paying jobs or own business and they are busy 7 days a week and 10 hrs a day. Mother at home is not educated and kids do not listen from both parent or parent don’t have time from their shops.
But in US, mostly parent are well educated and doing good jobs and work 40hrs/week. They have more time and those parents also understand American culture and better in bringing up their kids in US.

I am not saying all kids are bad here some I know are doing really good. I know one guy who works in security and his son is doing medical in UBC. But talking in general.

This was my thought.........yours? Good idea to share for our knowledge about what wrong here as compare to US?

I think its wrong to generalize this way in the first place.

Secondly, your assessement is completely different from mine. I've actually found Canadian born kids of desi heritage to be much better behaved than their counterparts in the states. They're less arrogant, more patient and definately more in tune with the culture of their heritage (which seems to be a big plus point for may desis)

But going back to point #1, this is only my perspective based on the kids I've dealt with. There's no way to make a general statement on where kids are better.

I think it has a lot to do with the immigration system. Canada is a country in the making and in this process allowed anyone and everyone in the past. I will leave anyone who debates this to check the stats on refugee claims made by Indians in Canada in the last 20 years. When parents can stoop to a level entering and living in a country illegally, what more can you except from the kids?

We accept or not, but for educated Indians, US is the first love. Most of us came to Canada because we could (remember calculating 67 points) and didn't go to the US because we couldn't. Those of us who moved from the US to Canada did that when the six year limit to be on H1B exhausted and still no company was even close enough to file their green cards.

Coming back to the contrast part of your post, the Indians in the US are highly educated, doctors, engineers, accountants while their counterparts in Canada can be very easily found working in factories or driving trucks. Education of parents plays a significant part in any child's upbringing, hence the difference.

I've never been to the west coast in Canada, but from what I've heard and read in the newspapers, most of the drug mafia in Vancouver is of Indian decent, not to mention numerous street gangs these kids have formed.

Read the local newspaper in Mississauga or Brampton and every other day you will find out a story of an Indian truck driver busted at the US border because he was trying to smuggle drugs hidden in his load. What do you think their kids will be when they grow up?

Talking of Indian kids being cultured here, all they know about India is that it is a dirty country their parents left 25 years ago and came to Canada to file a refugee claim (Hampering the chances of a lot of genuine refugees from war torn countries like Afghanistan, Haiti and Uganda). On the other hand, you might wanna check the stats on the 'spelling bee' champs of the last few years in the US and you will find a lot of Anils, kumars and priyas. Wonder how many desi kids do that in Canada.

!00% agree with clandestinely.

Canada immigration is little tighter than previous years and I hope things will change after 10-15 yrs.
Now days lot of well educated and well rounded people are immigrating here that may bring good reputation as Canadian Indian same like American Indian have there. but it takes time.

I disagree with your above statement.

I am one of those "Indian kids " however I and many people I know who are of Indo canadian heritage do not see India as a "dirty country".

I have seen people who leave India (as immigrants) who are more ashamed of their "dirty country" .

I have worked with refugee claimants and in my office there were no Indian claiments. I do not know where you get your stats from. Refugee claimants have to go to a hearing and prove their claim.

What does being good in a spelling bee tell about a person? does it guarantee moral conviction? strength of character? a good hearted individual. It does not.

Your words seem to subtley convey your feelings that us 2nd generations are somehow inferior to those born in the US because of some parameters that some individuals may feel are indicative of success.

Please Dont generalize.
