European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the 'European Union' rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.
The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas

Frde.

I had read this in four different locations. Skipped my mind. Hence I reposted.

This is NOT A JOKE.

Because most of the changes proposed are being implemented and it will become hell for those who would like to correspond with the European counter parts. Also, if I were to write to anybody there who studies this type of writing, it will become very difficult at the start. Imagine writing a business letter to some one in Europe.! I know it might smooth out later on, and I will get the hang of it slowly. I felt it is time for the reality to soak in and it will be interesting to see the opinion of others on this Forum. Being a week end, I reposted it.

Also, I was at the library and browsing through the Saturday Evening post, old issues in the archives, in fact so old, none of us would have born then.! Abouot 100 years old!! Then slowly proceeded through to the fifties, i.e. 1950. There in I saw an immigrant from the europe, more than likely a russian from german origin, who worked at odd jobs, such as a TV repair man, a telepone repair man etc., and his name was Heinrich Schnibble. He starts with his German speech and the other person who is English converses with him in English. As the repair job progresses, half way through he has picked up enough Engllish and the other person has picked up enough German. Finally when he finishes his repair job, he is speaking English and the other person is speaking German.

So, it is time we met half way and exchanged some vierws on this. What say you guys. Any one there??

Freddie.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Food for thought.

Would it not be nice to form a team nd develop a spell check and either commercially market it to Google, and/or any of the electronic dictioneries to add on to their "EUROSPELCHK" or make it available to the learning Europeans.?
It will surely come handy and might become a standard for all of the Business Letter writers and stenos, or office helps.

Think about it?!

'Whodathunkit' !!

Freddie.
