Nope no taxes for bringing it here as long as you are not bringing in bulk.

both the phones nokia 3230 and nokia 6600 will not work here as they only support 900/1800/1900 freq bandwidth while in North America you need 850 as well.
only phones that support 850/1900 freq bandwidth will work here

It is not true that phones without 850 band do not work in canada I do not know of other places but it works good in Toronto. Fido never had 850 towers but still their phones had been working good. It is only at some places where you may not get a signal.

Do you know the GSM freq bandwidth in Canada?
its 850/1900 here, if you still try to use phones with 1900 freq bandwidth then the problem you may face are

- No/poor network in some areas/places where applicable bandwidth is 850 and in all rural areas primary freq supported is 850.
- Also since 850 is a backup bandwidth so in case of n/w breakdown of 1900 freq. your phone will not have any signal or poor signal coz it doesnot support 850.
Fido is taken over by Rogers so now all fido services are on Rogers Network which is on 850/1900.

if you can compromise on these facts then upto you.

850 mhz was introduced in Canada in 2001 while primary bandwidth is still on 1900Mhz. 850 is being utilized in some rural areas and also as a backup in urban areas.
All Phones targetted to be sold in North America are 850/1900 band.
