Hello Everbody,
I think there are so many GUJJUS in Toronto so somebody will help me to find out VEGE (JAIN) restautants in Toronto or GTA area.
Thanks,
Regards,
Jaymin
Hi Jaymin,
Welcome to Jain food hunt community. Happy to learn that there are people looking for jain food.
I am enjoying food at the downtown Udipi place, they make sambhar without onion.
I have never ever dared to go in for punjabi vegetable dishes.
Saffron tree, a restaurant, located in downtown (89 Gerrard st, west) I know the owner personally, he has been serving jain items on request,
Chennai chef, restaurant on Kennedy at steels, prepares jain sambhar too on request.
I am hunting for jain cakes, unsuccessfully.
Post your findings if and any as and when you find one.
Hope this helps
Thanks 3M at last somebody replied! This hunting is for my parents as they are not eatting onions & garlic. I will try Udipi first, how abt Saffron tree, is it for South Indian dishes? Do we need to call them first or they can do at the same time?
I think there are very few restautants who serve the Jain dishes.
Once again thanks for your reply and thanks to everyone who has reviewed this post!
Hi Jaymin, I have not tried Saffron tree my self,(they are serving punjabi dishes) but as it appears on talking with the owner , he says he has been serving jain food on request, he seems to be knowing what to avoid for preparing jain dishes, that in itself gave me the confidence for his dishes, although I have not tasted his dishes myself.
Personally I do not prefer eating jain punjabi dishes in restaurants here.
Udipi is my all time favourite, and I strongly recommend it for your parents, they shall enjoy it better than anything else, these are my personal views assuming it is normally same for every parents.
Thanks 3M, how about Chennai Chef? It is close to my place. If you like GUJARATI food try take-out from Shayona (Nr.Swaminarayan Temple (Haveli)). I like it's KHICHADI on every Friday.
Hi Jaymin,
Chennai Chef is the restaurant I frequented a lot ,when I had not tried udipi, last I visited probably 6months back. But, they did prepare jain sambhar on request, and they are very reasonably priced when comparing with udipi place downtown.
Try Sai Leela Khaman Dhokla on Markahm Rd S of Ellesmere. They have food w/o onions & garlic. It's right across from Bombay Palace. Their take-out thali is for 5 bux, which incl. 3 veggies, dal, rice 5 rotis, salad & acchar.
