I m new to this forum. I m a civil engineer from Pakistan (NED Graduate) presently residing in Toronto.
seeking advice/suggestion from engineers working in Alberta to guide me which is best strategy
(A) it would be better to apply for jobs, and after selection company would provide all travel arrangements plus relocation etc. or
(B)I would travel to Alberta by myself, stay there for a few weeks and after getting job, complete relocation.
Disclaimer : I have never been to Alberta and I am in the Architecture line.
Hello!
Your first point would be the most appropriate but hiring in canada esp. for non IT field does not work that way. They want to your be physically present and even if you promise to relocate when given a job, they will not belive.
So the best recourse would be to first ascertain that there are jobs available there and then send them your resume and then follow up either on phone from here and fix appointments and go there to attend those or then leave to Alberta and then call to fix appointments from there.
It is very wise to first ascertain that even with Oil at $63 a barrel, if Alberta is still building. Any slowdown in the oil sands project will dampen the economy for sure and like many provinces of Canada, Alberta has very few back up other than the oil sands.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Peace by TK
