Excerpt from an article:
.....I soon discovered that he had been in Canada for eight years. Same as myself, I mused sleepily. Before migrating to Canada, he had a business in Lahore, he told me, and then he said, "I drive the taxi for three hours a day only; the rest of the time I am studying." I looked at him - he looked to be in his late 30s or early 40s. I was suddenly wide awake. "So what are you studying?" I asked.

You can have anything you want if you will give up the belief that you can't have it.
…Since the Canadian Immigrant magazine was launched, it has become apparent that education is important to immigrants - that is proven by the numerous educational institutions advertising in this magazine. We constantly get feedback from our advertisers who say they get huge responses from our readers…
Not difficult to make out; more than the story of cab driver, this is an advertisement from the publisher of 'IMMIGRANTS' solely aimed to benefit their advertisers, the educational institutes in Canada. This is another matter of discussion how many could find a nice job after completing these ‘Degrees’ and 'Diplomas’; or at what age this cab driver from Pakistan will finally settle in a good job.

Benprasad,
The editor of that magazine is a good friend of mine and he used CanadianDesi for promoting his magazine in the beginning. I thought this is another platform for desis and should be good for desis to know and helped with it.
However if the things are as you pointed out it is a different story. Interestingly I asked couple of times to my friend to publish an article for CanadianDesi in his magazine - he never refused but never did it and it has been now 2+ year. Now I understand the agenda. It is all game of marketing and CanadianDesi is not an advertiser so why care. And he has to take care of the investors of the magazine.
Regarding your question on the "upgrading your skills" - we had a poll in the past and below are the results:
Poll: Did you take any Education Program or updated your qualifications after coming to Canada?
No, but planning for it 27.0%
No, I already have job in my field 23.8%
No, I am not planning for it 19.0%
Yes, and it helped me 15.9%
Yes, but it didn't helped me 14.3%
So there are 1/4 of immigrants having job in their own field without studying here. There are 15% people for whom the education didn't worked at all!
At CanadianDesi we have direct voices from immigrants. They are not purposive editorials and/or articles written by staff reporters.

I do agree that the article could be a way to lure people into further studies...
But Mr.GG the poll that you pointed out that 15% people for whom studies have had no impact I think is flawed. The polls conducted on Canadian desi are all random polls and there is a high chance for a sampling bias. I believe the majority of the readers in Canadian desi are newly arrived immigrants or those who are still trying to settle in. So Iam not sure if these polls should be taken at face value.

Well I agree with that statement...but I still feel that your "sample"..with all due respect (the majority) consists of mainly frustrated young/old ..men and women who have felt they haven't achieved much in Canada and are still looking for solutions.
sampling bias: the tendency of a sample to exclude some members of the sampling universe and overrepresent others.
