Some Typical Salaries in India as on November 2006:

1.Age: 33 yrs, B.Com(Baroda University), M.Com(Baroda University), ICFAI-Hyderabad, 3 years in Cholamandalam Finance, 3 years in TATA Finance, 1.5 Years GE Financial, 1.5 Years in Citibank, Currently V.P Finance - Truck Leasing, CTC 28 Lakhs INR.This guy went to ME, interviewed with a few companies and got offers, but has decided against relocating to ME as he finds that he can make more money by dabbling in the Indian stock market (BSE 13,000 + & expected to reach 14,000 by Mid April 2007)simultaneously.

2.Age:37 yrs, B.E(Civil) Madras University, M.S(Environ Engg) U.S.A, Total of 13 years of experience, currently Vice President in a Swedish Multinational, CTC 30 Lakhs INR in the market with a price tag of 40 Lakhs INR & profit sharing/stock options.

3.Age:46, M.Sc(Opern research), M.B.A(IIM-A) in Systems, started career in ITC as officer, last job GM for Bosch Software in India, currently MD for a Large Software House in B'lore, CTC INR 50 Lakhs, stock options, profit sharing, with another hidden foreign pay in Europe at around INR 20 Lakhs.

I can list more and more case studies which will atleast 5 pages. The most important trump card is that they are all walking around with 3 options atleast in their pockets.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

The website shows recent ( updated 25.10.2006) surveys of salary in India. I am afraid some of the figures quoted in the discussion are no where near the median salary. Are we talking exceptions here?

Try this

In the U.K, the weekly pay for full time employees, average of all occupations, on an average is £447 (2006).

1 pound = 86 INR, as of today CAD is at 39.5 INR, British pound is more than double the value of CAD.

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=285

The results of the 2006 ASHE show that median weekly pay for full-time employees in the UK grew by 3.7 per cent in April 2006 to reach £447. Median earnings of full-time male employees was £487 per week in April 2006; for women the median was £387.
