Hello Cd's,
I was put forth this question by my junior in Libya (who has been laid off and wants to move to India). He is a person who has been in the Gulf / Libya for 10 years now and hence all his salary is Tax free or Tax evadable. However, I am sure that it will be of use to me and other CD's who are in various discussions with employers in India for a job.

He is asking me as to how to negotiate salaries in India to pay as less tax as possible. Is only Basic taxable or the entire package taxable. Also how much tax component will be there for a monthly gross salary of 2-3 lakhs?

How are we to discuss / negotiate salary break up with Indian employers.
We are talking of positions which pay Rs. 24-36 lakhs (gross) per annum.
i know that Sankaracharya put down a detailed breakup in 2007 but it is now 2011 and the world is not like what it was in 2007.

Answers appriciated, esp. from IT people in India as these are the majority of people who earn that kind of coin.
