geologists Jobs in Alberta
hi ,
Can someone suggest me about job scene in Calgary.Lot of people say that anyone gets hired over there.
I am 20 years of experience in the above subject and I am now looking for jobs over there.
Can someone help.

I am Phd in geology from India and woked in North Indian University as a reader in one of college for 20 years.

Even if your 20 years experience, it will not be easy to find a Job as Geologist in Calgary oil patch. You have to have Canadian Experience + APEGA membership before you can apply for any entry level job.

Loser Two because could not get H1B so next option "Immigration to Canada"

Alberta is the right place for geologists. However, most of the jobs require you to be on the field for maybe a month at a stretch.

When I was in Calgary, I had met a Indian geologist (young guy whom I met at the driving school) who had come from the Gulf & was not finding a job. I knew somebody who was in the same field & got him in touch & well, he got the job & is very happy.

You need good contacts to get a job. Approach Loser Two. If you want, you can contact me. I will try if my contacts still work in Calgary.

Let's make India a better place !

Please just do not look in Alberta, look in Manitoba, BC and Ontario also. Try to find societies that are there in those provinces. We deal with a lot of people that just travel to Calgary and think they will get a job there and come back disappointed.

The thing is 90 % of companies that you may want to apply to are not located there. When we do applications to the Oil patch we typically apply to over 1000 companies.

What I mean by that is yes 99.99 of those companies will not be interested in your experience but 1 company (0.01 %) will say yes. Note: only less than 100 good companies are located in the Calgary area in the oil consulting business.

Give you an example we just in the last 2-3 week put 5 university students - ZERO EXPERIENCE in the OIL patch. One started with package of 90K in Fort McMurray, other in the major cities were 50-65K wih ZERO experience. The only reason they got the job was wea pplied for them directly to the facilties in those cities and not to the Calgary headoffice.

But there are a lot of positions outside GTA where people miss out on also.
