Is Stéphane Dion French citizen also? Yesterday I saw on the tv. It was mentioned by one of Ottawa's talk show host. Also why liberal leaders are from Quebec? Aren't there any from other provinces? Crechian, Martin and now Dion.

I do not see any thing wrong in having dual citizenship. Look at Indian politicians. All are Indian citizens but stash their loot in swiss bank. It is not a litmus test for loyalty to the country.
As regardseaders being from Quebec, it is simple arithmatics. Quebec decides who win and become PM like Tamilnadu in India decides the ultimate fate in Indian politics!

Many canadian citizens obtain a passport ONLY for convenience. They still get to vote and decide the future of Canada. Most posters on canadiandesi consider themselves Indian first instead of Canadian...they still go cast their votes. Atleast Dion has never participated in the French vote.
Dion has an established public service record in Canada. He is also the brain behind the 'Clarity act', which virtually makes it impossible for Quebec to secede.
He is decisive too. During the 1995 referundum time when Quebec politicians were striving to play a balancing act, Dion wholeheartedly and unambiguously jumped to the pro-canada side drawing a LOT of flak from quebecors. Sovereignists passionately HATE him. Infact most sovereignist cartoonist's protray him as a rat.
For what he lacks in charisma he makes up for in focus, dedication and intellect. I hope the rest of Canada is not too swayed by unfavourable media reports. Maybe its a good time for him to show he can fight in the trenches when the going gets dirty and tough like it often does in politics.

You forgot Trudeau, Abbot, Laurier, St.Laurent.
Even Brian Mulroney was born in Quebec.
I guess most smart people and sports people (50% of canadian olympic team i've heard) in Canada are born in Quebec.
The rest of us just move here

Whether he has participated in the French vote or not, he is holding the French citizenship. A liberal leader is a potential PM. And Canadians want a PM who is a dual citizen? Is he loyal to Canada or France? I think even the GG had the French citizenship. Blame the lax rules of this country.

BTW: for your information France was covertly backing a Quebec Nation during the referundum and would have been amongst the ***first **** countries to back a sovereign Quebec if the 'Yes' side won.
NOW put that in context with Dions 'Clarity Act' and his stand against separatism. Where do you now think Dions loyalties lie? France or Canada?
