Hi. I will appreciate a timely answer to this by an Expert in this matter.

I am a software engineer working in an IT company in Ottawa, Ontario for the last one year. Now, I am getting another job offer in Montreal, Quebec.

My question is:
1. Since I am not a canadian citizen yet, only a Landed Immigrant with a PR card, am I legally entitled to work in Quebec? Or does it require any processing to be done by the Immigration dept? I vaguely recall some exclusions regarding Quebec at the the time of initial entry into Canada.

2. Is working in Quebec any better or worse than in Ontario? I mean comparing Taxes, Cost of living, Health care, etc.

3. Also, my wife is expecting a baby soon. Does it matter where the baby is born? I mean Quebec or the rest of Canada, as far his being a Citizen in Canada?

I have to convey my decision to the new employer within hours, so please see if someone can give me good, pertinent info about the above. I will be checking the replies to my post every so often hoping for a reply.

Thanks
- A

Hi Winning Canada,
Congratulations upon landing a job in Montreal. Hope the conditions are better and remunerations higher too.
Answer to 1) Yes you are free to go any where in Canada and accept jobs anywhere, even outside of canada. I Re-affirm that Quebec is still in Canada and always has been a part of Canada. It does not require any reprocessing of anything. (What you knew as 'vaguely' prior to arriving here can be verified at a later date. That is another subject matter for a thesis)
Answer to 2) You might loose a percentage or two extra to the quebec government in taxes. Compare the tables at a later date, other items will remain the same and services provided are equal too. Cost of living-wise: The rents are a little cheaper than Ottawa, food items a tad cheaper, but the price of gas is, was and has been 8% costlier east of HULL, the demarcation line. You win some you loose some. Transportation is GOOD, roads lousy, but gets repaired every summer. People are reserved, except expats.
Answer 3) Hey, congrats, I will drink to that, what is it going to be a cigar party or Champagne one? No siree bob, it does not matter where the kid is born. He/she will always be a Canuk.
Make sure you know the Hockey team and its name. It is Montreal Canadians also called 'Habs'. It is a red jersey with a big C and a small H inscribed withinit.
Good luck and great going.

Freddie.

Freddie said it right.
In addition, QC gives lot of freebies. Check it out. Child tax benefits are great. They will also teach French for free to everyone (check out if u r paid for it too; I am told that's the case).
Lot of desis/south asians. Good eatouts.
