Dear CDs

I landed in Vancouver on 24th Dec and I would like to share my experience with you all. I am yet to decide if it was a "good" experience.

The lady at the immigration counter was extremely rude. She seemed to be very irritated to see us ( my husband and myself). She asked us a couple questions..which we answered and while doing so I realized that she was least bit interested in what I was saying.

She did not take our photographs for the PR card. She told us that the photographs on the landing document was more than enough. I was a bit surprised as I had read in charcha over and over that photographs for PR card are taken at the time of landing. I, however, did not want to ask too many questions and irritate her more as she already looked irritated.

On my husband's landing document she did not write the address, where the PR card had to be mailed. I assumed that since we were together and she had already noted it down on mine, it was okay if she didnt write it down on his..

She did not check my 'goods accompanying' or 'goods to follow' list. I insisted that she look at it and do the necessary stuff and she told me that they dont do that anymore. My cargo will be here in a week or so and I am hoping that I am able to get it without any problem..

...at the end of it I was glad that I was done with her.

After a couple days, we went to apply for the SIN and the lady who helped us there told us that the immigration officer had messedup with my husband's first and last name. The name entered in the system was totally different. She issued us the SIN and ensured us that she would have the problem fixed and it was her job to do so, but I have my own concerns here. We'll just have to wait for our cards and see if there is any problem with the name...

A couple days back I logged on to the CIC website to see if the address that I gave at the time of landing was updated and I was disappointed to see that it was not. I quickly updated it myself..but am extremely disappointed with the system. I am just hoping that we receive our PR cards, SIN cards on time, without further hiccups....

Will update when I receive further information

Not to worry friend as some of the staff are untrained/unprofessional. most of them are refugees or immigrant and acting as the president of canada while working at the airport - for me the experience was nice but still i had gone through lots of up and down too with the US border immigration officer - But the lady at the canadian immigration was wonderful -

Unfortunately some folks hit the rough surface during the landing process. On a side note.

1. It is normal, not to photograph. Never happened to me.
2. Immigration person never worries about Goods but your Settlement funds.
3. I am able to understand that she has decided to mail both the cards to the same address because you both one of you has immigrated as a dependent to the other (assumption).
4. You've landed and you have a copy of Landing papers.. Rest of the process, even if they hit any complications, aren't going to be that difficult and time consuming as waiting to immigrate or waiting on CIC decision.

Although it is a common perception that we feel the country recognizes their wanna be citizens the same way their Border folks, it can't really be true..

Feeling bit skeptical at this point is very normal during the early phase immigration, you are not alone. Just forget the incident and start planning your settlements..

Congratulations!!!!!! Welcome to Canada.

I don't believe that immigration officers ever 'check' the goods to follow list. Rather that would be done by a customs officer.
