Dear CD members,
We are landed immigrants and planning to move to Canada (Toronto) during Aug 07.
My daughter is about to complete Grade 10 CBSE board exams. She studied English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Studies subjects in Grade 9 & 10.
I wish to know how many credits, TDSB assessment centre gives for above subjects, assuming she does well in their Maths and English tests.
Kindly share the info if anyone had gone through this process or aware of it.
Regards,
- Erra
I have also the same question. My son is appearing for grade10 CBSE exam with French as second language. We intend to land in Canada on August 2007. We landed on 2005/August .

when u land in canada, u will have to give an assessment test. It will be mostly about english and maths. If ur son or daughter does well then they will be directly admitted to grade 11. And they will be given full credits for grade 9 and 10.
Shaik,
Thanks for your post. Would you please tell me number of credits student from India is awarded rather than grades he is exempted from?
Ontario student needs to complete 30 credits to get Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and has great flexibility in choosing subjects from Grade 9 ~ 12.

My understanding is that credits, TDSB awards for Indian schooling are based on the subjects passed in India and whether the syllabus followed is comparable to the syllabus of OSSD subjects.
Based on the syllabus, I guess the credits for both Grade 9 & 10 as follows.
Maths - 2, Science - 2, English - 2, Hindi - 1, Socail Sciences - 1 ???. Total 10 credits.
I think 10 credits for two years of study are too less comapred to 30 credits for four years of Ontario study.
Can someone who had gone though this process share the information?

well in a canadian high school u have to get 30 credits. Each year u have to do different credits like wht i remember is
Grade 9
English
Science
Maths
Gym
Geography
French and the rest are optional so u can take any other subject for example family studies etc
In grade 10
English
Science
Maths
canadian history
Civics and Careers
Rest are optional
In grade 11
English
Rest are optional so u can take anything
ditto in grade 12.
But as i said before , ur daughter will give an assesment test according to her grade in India. If she is good and passes the grade 11 test, then they will give her all the credits for Grade 9, 10, 11. If she passes grade 10 test , then they will give her all the credits for Grade 9 and 10.hope this helped. I know its confusing and they actually don't consider Hindi or other things. Just make sure that she is good in English and Maths
And the credit system is
Grade 9 : 8 credits
Grade 10: 8 credits
Grade 11: 8 credits
Grade 12: 6 credits ( because its harder)
You can't do more than 8 credits in one year
