Hi,
I have a question for all the people who are familiar with the American system. I recently got an acceptance letter from the Washington State University for admission as undergraduate freshman for fall 2004. They have also offered me a scholorship worth $ 20,000 (Cougar freshman academic award) based on my SAT scores, school records, letters of recos etc..Now this came as a pleasant surprise to me since I had not expected a dime from a State University as an international student.
Anyhow, what I am thinking is that since I had given my mailing address in California (my brother, who is a graduate student there, as he was handling my documents) they may have mistaken me for a CA resident.
Now not that I'm complaining, but they've obviously made a mistake.
However , I'm told that there are certain ways to work around this..my brother for example was telling me that one can become a resident of Nevada in 3 days. I am willing to try anything since receiving this scholarship will reduce my tuition fees by almost 50 % and hence improve my chances of going to school there. I understand that worst comes to worst , if I try doing something and get caught, they will cancel my addmission but I am still willing to try coz WSU is slightly lower down on the list of schools I applied to and I'm expecting at least a couple of other schools to offer me admission.
Anyhow, that is the situation as I understand it. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.
Kunal
