" The bubble has finally burst on foreign student enrollments in the US. For the second year in a row, international students are foregoing the US as a destination for higher education. And US colleges fear there is trouble ahead if the government doesn’t wake up now.
Princeton-based Educational Testing Service, which conducts the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), recently declared that the number of international students registering for GRE in 2004 for admission in fall 2005 has dropped dramatically.
The drop was 37% for Indians, 43% for Taiwanese and 50% for Chinese.
There’s more. The Council for Graduate Schools has found that applications from international students to US graduate schools for the September 2005 session are down for the second year in a row.
Universities have warned that if the trend is not reversed, the implications for the future of the American science and technology enterprise will be dire.
What is worrying American institutions is that even as the US is largely ignores this decline, countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK and Canada are “implementing strategies for enhancing their attractiveness and accessibility for international students”.
According to Lawrence H Bell, vice president (public policy), NAFSA: Association of International Educators, “The US has never had such a strategy. We’ve always assumed that everyone wanted to come here, so we didn’t need to do anything to attract them.”
Even non-traditional countries like Finland, France, Japan, Singapore and Poland, are emerging as competitors in the international education market."

This was what i was told by a dear friend across a table at a coffee house . Needless to say , i took some time off from better things in life ( wonder why the X [ where this X can be a very big number in millions ] -14000 odd people never bothered to do this ever ) to read what it is all about . Some threads really made a big effort to inform people around the world about Canada . Kudos to all those who volunteered . But some threads ( specially the job sites ) where it was evident people who culdnt get jobs dominated outrightly . Well whats even more irking was when some people write stuff like \" You wont get in \" .. \" I dont think you have good qualifications to make it \" assuming they are some sort of 'gladiators' who came to rescue the ignorant diaspora from the valuable information ( i am punching my calculator to estimate the value ) they are missing out on .
Humbly request the mods to keep a track of such posts . Doesnt help your cause guyz . Now coming to the guyz who replied to my id . Hmm, as you might have seen .. i dont like to take a stick for too long and when i give it back i give it with ROYAL HONORS . But i have much better things to do in life than to feel \" intrigeud \" ( i hope i got that wrong ) by someone's id in a website . I would also like to know what is it in my posts about US education that might have given a call to the 'wild' side of ' gentlemen' .
