I would like to know if anyones parents are visiting Toronto from India during this May June. I have my parents visiting us for 2 months and I want them to have the best of their vacation.
I was thinking if we could team up with other families with parents visiting may be we could plan for some potlucks or picnics so that they have a little company of their own age rather than just us or our friends everytime.

Thanks
Cherry

My parents are planning to come here around the same time....from Bangalore. I like the idea. However, where are your parents coming from in India?

Whilst this is a good idea it might be wise to first check with your parents....I find it strange for them to come half way around the world and spend time with exactly the same kind of people they would whilst in India.

The summer is a great time for yuo to take them out and explore the various natural wondres this country has to offer...take them to Niagara escarpmrnt area...take them to some of the conservation parks....take them to a hockey game (the season might be over by the time your folks get here)...talk tem for a picnic by the lake...first Lake Ontario....downtomw Oakville or Burlington has some great stretches....then lake Huron....1000 Islands...needless to say ...the Falls....the list is endless...

If you really want them to have a good time...let them truly experience a new country...rather than spend it doing exactly what they woud have doen in India...

Those are all good ideas, but they are dependend on us to do all this, and we cannot take vacation for long time, only maybe couple of days. Plus people of there age (usually parents are in there 50s and 60s for most folks here in there 30s), going around all the time might be physically stressfull.

Take them to a hockey game looks far stretched, when most of the desi's here itself are not hooked into that game. For me it's more of a brawl and beer drinking that people go to hockey games for.

To mynameisraj

My parents are from Nagpur, Maharashtra.
You can send me a PM if u have something more to ask or suggest.

To BigB

I already have a long to do list for them ready while in Toronto and a couple trips planned for US but too much outing is also boring. Interacting with people and sharing their vacation experiences with people of their age is my idea.
We dont have potlucks in India? do we?

I would strongly discourage you from getting insurance from India, even though it sounds cheap to buy there. Getting any claims from them is a nightmare. Thing about how many phone calls you are going to make from Canada.

I would suggest this

http://www.david-cummings.com/services/travellingtocanada/index.htm

With any insurance, there are hundreds of exclusions...for parents your age, don't expect a $70 per month insurance to cover any pre-existing conditions. These types of insurance are there only for big ticket items(read hospitalization) for any new things that might happen.
For small doctor visits, the comprehensive plans are way too expensive. General doctor's visits atleast in Ontario cost only $40 bucks compared to US where it can go upto $110.
