He shouldn't have been allowed to perform the surgery for the single reason that he is not a trained doctor, merely a student in Class 10. And all this in the name of creating a record! And get this, the irresponsible people, have actually got a recording of the surgery so that they can back up their claim !!!
I don't know why us - the indian parents want their kids to be over achievers all the time..Why are we so obsessed with making and breaking records?
Why are we so obsessed with having children who are superkids?
Indians in general and Tamilians included have proved their worth in every field .... so they dont need this kind of cheap gimmicry to show their worth .... incidentally the youngest doctor in the world & i mean a qualified one happens to be of Indian origin and from Tamilian background .... he became a doctor at the age of 17 years ...... Makes me and Sankaracharya very glad !

Sidenote : The boy and his parents face criminal charges for this feat is another story.

As said before I have injected Terramycin on cats and dogs. The decision to use Teramycin came from my dad. It does not matter if i injected it in the hind leg or tummy or the neck of the cat / dog. In the same way, my dad will make the decision as to where i should make in incision and for how long and deep. It does not matter that he should be the one to do it. Either i do it or the livestock assistant does it or the owner of the pet does it.
I hope you get the point that i am trying to make.
The boy did not do anything creative nor was the task that performed a huge one.
I would rather be operated by Dr. Murugason or his son than to be operated by SOME doctor in Canada. Some Doctors in Canada are that bad ( I also agree that India has a few bad eggs.).

Tiruchirappalli (TN), June 25: The doctor parents, whose son performed a ceasarian surgery, were today arrested and are likely to be charged under various laws, even as investigations have revealed that the boy, Dhileepan Raj, had performed the operation.
The couple, Dr Murugesan and Dr Gandhimathi, could be charged under the IPC, the Indian Medical act and the pre-natal Diagnostic Test Act, 1994, district Collector Ashish Vachchani told reporters here today.
He said the investigation by a team, headed by the Revenue Divisional Officer, revealed that the boy had performed the surgery at the mathi surgical and maternity hospital at manappari near here.
Depositions by Indian Medical Association members, records collected from the hospital, run by the boy's parents and a script of the telephonic interview with a Tamil weekly were all taken into consideration before concluding that the couple were guilty of the offence, Vachchani said.
He said a case has been filed at Manapparai against them.
Vachchani said the Joint Director of Medical Services, Tiruchirapalli, would issue notice to them, seeking an explanation and demanding to know wby a scan centre within the hospital should not be closed.
To a question on whether the hospital would be closed, he said the matter was still under investigation.
The investigation report also revealed that the patient operated on was not a niece of Dr Murugesan, as claimed by him earlier, but someone whose identity would be made known soon, he said. (Agencies)
I hope they go to jail.
As an addition to the above:
I contacted my mother yesterday asking if what this person did was accepted by the Tamilian society and she told me that No one in TN agreed that what the boy did was true (She was speaking on behalf of the general population).
Tonight I will ask my dad (A qualified veterianry doctor) as to what the medical fraternity thinks about this operation along with my dad's views and post them on this board tomorrow.
I would also encourage other medical doctor members of CD to post their views here.

Tk, you are a very simple and good hearted person and I fully respect and value your posts here (not been long on CD but keep reading a lot). But I'll disagree with you here, it was unethical of parents to allow the child to do that. This morning I read an old reader digest article on a guy called "Hamilton" from South Africa who had a lot of surgery experience (40 yrs). He was a school drop out and a gardener and learned the intricate surgery by watching but he also never performed a surgery on a living soul...though he guided the junior doctors doing it (he did it on pigs/dogs...experimental surgeries). This kid in controversy can be no doubt good and intelligent and also capable to do the c-sec but as doctors (parents) should not have allowed this. Kuch bhi ho skta tha (anything could have happened)...actually the whole controversy happened.
