HI MEMBER DESIS, A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
I am a regular reader of the discussions here , however i have not contributed much , but this fourm has helped me in deciding to move to canada.
I have secured an arranged employment in my own field in ontario and all other points etc are adding up just fine and have just applied for my immigration through a canada based lawyer suggested by my company.
However i have a problem that i am not able to decide and require your help.
I am a 28 year old, obese male and with my BMI doctors have said it is good if i go through the gastric bypass surgery to loose weight. Actually we have a family history of blood clots and strokes, and my corrent BP and Sugar are under control but borderline high, my doctors say that these are secondary to my weight and getting this surgery will reduce and.or eliminate all these health risks.
However i am inclined towards this procedure being done, i am scared that getting this procedure done before might be a reason of rejection of my PR application which i cannot risk , and if i dont get it done i may be deemed obese with BP and Sugar , so probably not fit for immigration .
Please i need your help on this , i tried to browse around but am not able to find specific responses on similar matter ....
Please advice wether i should do the surgery before or after immigration and what are my immigration success chances in both scenarios..... My doctor said my condition and weight will drastically improve within six months of the surgury and as i have applied just recently i am sure it will take atlease 8-12 months even under the new system before medicals and/or decision....
please friends i need you advice on this .. pls oblige ....
regards.

In broad terms, Canadian immigration never refuses a principal applicant based on his medical history, unless the medical board of the Canadian immigration is convinced that your medical condition will make you exploit the health care system of Canada right from day 1, the access to health care that you were not entitled to in your country of residence.
It is a grey area and no one knows the actual written word / actual terms for rejection unless we do a case study with immigrants who have been granted / denied immigration.
So if you are perfectly capable of doing your profession in your home country (like an engineer, lawyer, salesman and not like being in the hospital bed and commanding your employee's over the cellphone to run your buisiness) you would be fine.
However, it is imperative that you get thie surgery done as soon as possible, so as to increase your life span. Once you come to Canada, you will find that life is so tough here to survive that you may not even have the oppertunity to use our over burdened but professional health care system, though it is completely free and at no cost to you. However you will need to find a family doctor who can take you in, and then refer you to a specialist and then you get wait listed for surgery.
If it is free / or at no much cost to you in your home country, Please do the surgery (if it not risky). Your medicals may arrive only after a min. of 18-24 months and you have 90 days grace period to do the medical.
All the best and welcome to this frozen land. Also please browse this forum to get a real life about the condition in Canada and make an informed decision. We need future tax payers like you in this land to pay for our seniors who have worked very hard in their early years and now who are in assisted nursing care and to support various social schemes of the Canadian govt. and including $300 million needed for an election in the very near future.
Peace by TK

I found the response by T K funny beyond words. I think if you promise to work and pay taxes for next 20 years Canadians will overlook your health problems.
