Just a quick question. I am about to arrive as a new immigrant in Canada. I am wondering how finely grained the list of goods and personal effects I am bringing to Canada has to be (i.e., do I have to list every pair of socks that I bring in or can I just put “clothes” and give a value?).
Many thanks
Hello chazy
I am as well planning to land very soon.I have enquired few ppl and i got mixed answers.People who are really cautious are trying to mention each and every pc which is real absurd upto me. I have decided to put them alltogether as CLOTHES and the amount.Thatz it!
cheers

Clothes is ok you can put in general . But high value items put in details. And put extra items like carpets and furniture. Even if you dont bring them first time , if in the future you want to bring an expensive carpet you can bring it without duty.
The customs in Canada are relaxed not like India customs. Here they cannot make Hafta ?

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
I dont even remembering listing anything for the customs, we were three, me, wife n child.
And nobody at the canadian customs checked our luggage.
PS: Hint: Even if it costs u some bucks, I would advise to get a porter at the airport, they will make sure u dont get harassed... easy exit.... was worth the money the few times I had to get out as fast and without much checking...
