Hello Plastic Man:
It is nice to know that you intend to migrate to Canada. I am myself from Chennai. So we both share a common link. Apart from that,I am an accountant(CA) and an MBA as well.
I have lived and travelled extensively outside India-Singapore,Malaysia, Philippines, UK, Hungary before coming to Canada.
As my friends have pointed in earlier threads, and also going by my own experiences, Canada is probably unique in that experiences gained outside Canada ,(including USA) is often not recognized.Your US experience, might pass,if you are extremely lucky.
I do not know your age or experience or how long ago you gained your PhD.You might want to be more realistic in expectations and expect to work as a taxi driver or some similiar role for a while.Yes,unbelievable as it sounds,it is true.I have seen with my own eyes an IIT Chemical Engg Powai working as a coolie labourer. He is still struggling after 3 years of living here and wants badly to go back to his comfortable job as a MD in Bombay. He is unfortunately trapped in his own circle.....
Your luck might or might not be with you. You have the fortunate luck of hearing first hand experiences from all of us,myself included.Do not have delusions that US education or work experience helps. It might or might not help.Take that with a pinch of salt.
Ultimately its your call. You've seen US and the life there; so you should know better than the average immigrant. One important thing, Canada is totally different from US in every aspect of life, though geographically close neighbours. Please remember that when you evaluate your decision to come here.
Good luck.If you decide to come here, please feel free to email me or write me.
