Friends,
Everyone is aware of the life style and jobs in Canada. Are we overwhelmed with jobs what ever we are doing or searching your own line of jobs.
I experienced pressure from the relatives expectations at India , where your relatives might be enjoying BIG position designations (GM,VP...etc ).
Please share with group your experiences and incidents to be aware and appreciate
all the responses for tackling these situations.
No preaching but Be positive wherever you are.
Cheers !!

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
If I understand right, you want to know if we feel pressured to pursue job titles like
General Manger. vice president, president CE) etc..........
I would imagine this is a very personal thing, more connected with your comfort level, more than anything else. The face of India has changed a great deal, ever since outsourcing from the west started. Engineering and management graduates start with salaries starting at half a million rupees or more per year. The rise to the top, too is faster because there are more opportunities than ever before. One can aspire to be a vice- president in his/her 30's........... something unimaginable, just about 10 or 12 years back.
As far as the west goes, for the most part, there is little social pressure to seek these titles, because one's career (like most other things) are very personal. In my perception, it would be unwise to compare the situation here vis-a-vis India. The again, it would also depend what age group you belong to, and how personally you take, these pressures.
Yes, it would be great to be a CEO, be it here or in India (with the big bucks and bonuses that the job title would bring), but to me personally, what matters most is - do I love what I am doing............ the job title is immaterial, and I would not compare myself with someone my age, having the same education, with a great job title like CEO, CFO. Vice president or anything similar.
I wouldn't care much either about what my relatives expect of my job title.
My 2 cents.
