Costco doesn't give any plastic bags and i have not seen anyone carrying bags there and still , everyone manages.

So with Walmart and others managing without a plastic bags should not be a issue . Keep couple of cloth bags ( pc , wallmart ) always in your car in case you need them anytime ...

I add one more point to save the environment.

1. Producing 1kg of beef results in more CO2 emissions than going for a three-hour drive while leaving all the lights on at home.

So it is a matter of convenience and one finds which is more convenient to save the environment.

That's why its considered, Cow to be sacred in Hindu religion.
& Vegetarian is the preferred diet.
As far as protein is considered, there are lot better veg protein source than beef/meat.

Correct.
It is very easy to fulfill protein needs from vegetarian diet.
I would say that if one really wants to save the environment then he/she should first become Vegetarian.

I personally hated when canadian superstores would sell plastic bags for $0.09 each when the walmart at the other end of the road would generously pack our stuff with plastic bags. My point is if these stores are so concerned about environment why not use enviro-firendly bags for a fee than offering plastic bags for a fee. That for me is a way to make more money. Though this decision of mine can be disputable, how about I add the argument that these same stores want us to use a loonie to use a cart (of course we get it back, but still there are stores who treat us better and still do good business. If you can't then it's your business model, right?). Somehow I don't like these canadian centric stores holding our reins tight to steer us in the direction they want. Many foreign company established chain stores are more friendly.
Having said that, let me get to back to the topic. Yes plastic should be banned no matter which form they are. Do you know what I do when I go to super store for groceries. I carry things in cart all around the store. When I come to my car, I transfer these items to my travel size suitcase in the trunk(Yes suitcase, as much as it sounds funny it is environmentally safe). When we get back to our home, I roll my suitcase in its wheels. I got to honestly admit it though, when I visit Walmart I still use the plastic bag. Now, if an universal rule came to ban plastic bags I would definitely change my shopping style. I say, Go Jute or Go "cloth mixed up with paper bags" or SUITCASES (in my case, LOL). Personally, I would suggest you to try this suitcase idea for once to see how great it works! Even during unexpected shopping I dump the purchased items from cart to my trunk, bring my suitcase to fill them up at my home's parking lot!
How about that?
