Vaccination for you kids when going to India from canada

Hi,
I was jus wondering if any of the desi's have done vaccinations like Diarrhea , malaria or hep vaccine for your kids and family before leaving to india for vacation. if yes can u tell me how much it costed and where did u do it and were they effective enough.

Hi,
The First two are unknown quantities. Never done.
For Diarrhea, they take 'immodium' or generic. Consult your Pharmacist or your Family Physician.
For Malaria: They will ask you to take "Meflaquin" 250 mg two weeks prior to (One a week) and once every week after, till return, and four weeks after return. (Two weeks Before and Four weeks After) Do not use substitutes.
Hepatitis A & B, you buy the vials and Your Doctor will do the needful. Please do consult him prior to the shots. Also note the method of storing before purchase. He is the one to ask and not this website.
HEP C : Currently not available, at the time this hits the web.

Yes we took the following -
Twinrix - Hep A and B - 3 shots
Dukoral - For Traveller's Diarrhea
Malarone - for Malaria
Thyphine - For Typhoid -
For the 3 of us total cost came to be around 1500 dollars. Travel Clinic is also not covered thru OHIP. None of these drugs were covered in our drug plan.

I belive you did a very wrong thing. You could have driven to the doctor in India from the airport and it could have cost you all just Rs. 1500 to get all this things done incl. travel to the doctor's office by AC car.

Vaccination has to be done before travel at least two weeks or three weeks to fight against the germs and to have good health condition not at the landing airport to save money. Vaccinating at the landing airport is a misconception if the children falls hill, then the vacation and money is wasted. Some vaccines at least I know Yellow Fever injection need to be done before two weeks ahead of travel to any African countries otherwise it will not be effective. The yellow fever is so dangerous in African countries one could loose their life. There should not be money saving attitude by jeopardizing children health during their vacation time. Save money some where else and vaccinate the kids before departure the scheduled countries
