Yes, We did give it to my child before going to india. We even gave one for typhoid and Diarrhea. Dont worry they are safe. Be very careful in water consumption as the probability of getting diarrhea is more than anything else.
Have a safe trip!
Hi ..what about malaria? Did you give the child anything for preventing? Am feeling nervous how am I going to follow him around wiping his hands since he is going to touch everything possible.
Any tips and suggestions of being prepared for the trip will really help.

For Malaria prone areas (esp. Ahmedabad), you may need to give some preventive medicine.
You can ask the local doctor in India to do that as it is way inexpensive here.
I have had the oppertunity to be with some Canadian children born in Canada and lived 3-8 years in Canada and migrated to India. I have never seem them sick or even with cold / running nose. So may be India is better now.
On the advice of the doctor, even these children took Twinrix but their parents saw no need to give them the second and third dose in India, as India now is much better than what i it was 10 years back.
However, if you are planning to go to Villages in India, necessary precautions to be taken.
Peace

Thank you TK and Samna for your replies.
I am wondering about what caution you exercised with your canadian born kids ie. no taking to public places like beach and letting play in the sand etc.
I would think that boiled water, home food would be most important. Mosquito net. Any other suggestions.

No special vaccinations from travel clinics were given when we travelled with an 6 months old and 2 and half year old. Natural to be concerned but we never preferred to give special vaccination (other than the ones that are mandatory here). Both had good time there.
Good luck!
Canadian born children feel fine here. Parents of these Canadian born children let them play with dirt as well as given road side food but no sickness came.
They just boil water and give and also wash hands with soap after playing from outside.
However, I am not sure of the situation at villages.
