How about making a kind of group after making thorough Introduction\verification all business members to unite for a common goal and start some business by selecting a project worth doing.
I have one project to start. All Cd's & S cd's advice is always appreciated.
- What if we all collect our old discarded or second hand house hold (all types items) and try to sell with very little profit a common rented place\warehouse etc. and later make franchises of that biz.
our expences at the most would be our purchases (Items from garage sales + our own discarded items etc etc)
it's like e-bay with some physical location as well.
Another advantage we guys can get is sometimes we do not get a place to visit then if we have this kind of a place we can always go and check the stuff for ur home, where we do not have to go for the new one always..
Also we are in a way helping all our desi community guys to buy the best at the lowest possible prices, that would save their time going to garage sales as well.

Not to discourage you but you must know by now that Desi's all over the world do not that easily part with their goods for a little profit. They almost everytime want the same money that they actually bought it for.
OTOH, you can find some good items thrown away by people other than Desi and may be you could collect them and even start selling them from your Garage.
With the advent of Kijiji, Craiglist and E-bay, business proposals such as yours always does not prosper that easily.
2 years back, I had seen such warehouses filled with stuff with no takers at all every weekend (near Jane and Dundas area). One of the setback to that business was the high price for the junk items.

Contrary to your general observation/assumption, we (my family and some of our friends) are looking for anyone who could take away a lot of junk - (good one though - some of them are totally new and unopened) for a fraction of the original price. Many of those things (like books) are the ones we bought for our own use but do not need it now, and some are gifts received which we do not need. Any takers are welcome!

What i feel is " to do the same things but differently..so in our case there would be lots of additions..like
- online website for all displayed products with all possible searches
- best lowest attractions, deals.
- paper & e-flyers ..later on
- little profit means best lowest price avialable ..little above then throw away prices (these prices can be fixed by the committee ..that we can form later on..)

Removal of junk from people's homes is a better business than buying it from them and selling it. Cost of removal itself in this country is so high that it is not worth buying junk and reselling it.
If you want to start a 'community' business, think big. I could give you an idea or two if you are serious - and serious means investing both time and money.

so pls go ahead and tell us ur ideas..but be open to all of us..no PM plz..
also as you said before you have lots of stuff that you want to be lifted from your home. Just think how do some business promoters like us know about it till the time you put it online somewhere or bring it to our notice. Sorry to say but junk that you have at home could be worth for some new immigrant or somebody else who at present cannot afford to buy a new item.
So if we have a proper place (physical and as well as online where you are given option to describe and show pictures ,before that biz guys lift the material for their benefir 1st.) that would be worth going for i wish!

i believe in sharing and earning. Nobody can take anybody fortunes..even if you have the idea still you need to work hard and smart to implement and get the success..

If you are talking about it as a social service, yes it is good. But not from business point of view.
I have things which can fill up a van easily and will therefore cost you anywhere around $100 or more (since you might even need some extra hands) - then storage etc. If you go and sell it, it might not fetch you even $200 even though the stuff is new or usable - simply because the person who is buying it from you will expect a 90% discount compared to original prices. Moreover, anything which can fetch some price though junk for someone is easily bought and sold on Craigslist/Kijiji etc. It is easier and no one stores anything - everyone sells his own junk.
