Hi,

I am planning to go to Buffalo. Can anybody give me any tips on immigration issues (after the shopping), how much US$ cash to carry or are credit cards good enough, plus malls to check out etc.

Thanks

If you are planning only a day trip, as per the law, you are allowed to bring back only $50 worth of goods. So I guess carrying around $100-150 should be enough

Hi,
If you stay overnight and return after 24 hours now the limit is $400 CAD per person. If kids are also going they can claim the same amount provided the goods are to be used by kids. You can't buy a bench press and claim it for kids use.:-) After a 4 days stay the limit is CAD $750 per person. Also before leaving, do get a card from customs for all your cameras, laptops etc. Customs will issue you a card with the serial numbers on it, so that when you come back you can prove that you did not buy those items in the US and owned before leaving country. Don't try to buy any alcohol/liquor or tobacco. These raise red flags.

If you have a credit card in US funds (TD CIBC can issue one), then its good to have else your credit card company will charge you 2%/3% currency conversion charge. AMEX charges 3%.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and have a safe trip.

When was this changed, it used to be $ 50 for 24 hours and $ 400 for 48 hours return ..... do you have any link to these changes as CBSA website is still showing the old exemptions

@GreatGuy BTW next monday 26 May is Memorial Day in US. At that time many stores will have Memorial day sales. Many electronic stores such as www.circuitcity.com, www.bestbuy.com, www.compusa.com, www.officemax.com, www.officedepot.com will have good sales. You can also find some good deals at www.Kohls.com both online and in their brick and mortar stores, this store is somewhat like Winners here.

Thanks
