kamlesh i also live in edmonton i havent seen good lawyer in edmonton all are money makers no body knows much all they know how to rip money from innocent people but you can walk in the reputated lawyers for advice
i prefer if you see any GORA lawyer.
You applied PR on compasionate ground - which means under refugee status and that got rejected.
Now you need to follow the procedure for parents but your mother in law's file is laready tainted as you have to mention that rejection in her immigration application. What will lawyers do? - They can prepare application and file. Noting beyond that. Their role will come if the sponsorship application or immigration application is rejected. That is not the case. If you are hiring a lawyer for this purpose then it would waste of money.
Generally extension to visitor visa is given only once i.e upto six months. You would be lucky if you get another one. I could understand from your facts that she has overstayed her permitted stay. She got visa for 2 years and that is expiring in Dec 2008. 2 years visa does not mean than you can stay continously for 2 years. You need to out of country every six months. If she is visiting US and reentering after six months then it is fine.
well nice to see.. somebody actually wants MIL to be around.. good to read the post.. after reading about the evil MIL ..
Jokes aside.. i think u should talk to somebody who can help u out.. a post on CD doesn't really help in cases like this.. may be a meeting with ur local MP/MPP will be more useful.. or.. a lawyer who can help out.. look for desi lawyers who would help you out.
