I sponsored my Mom and I submitted following documents
My Employment letter, Property papers, Bank Papers, Driver's License and my passport copy.
My mom submitted Pension copy, Bank passbook, and property papers in India.
Hope that helps. We got 3 months visa from India even though her visa got rejected once from US.

I heard that if Immigrant with good job and bank balance, has applied for parents PR/immigration, then refusal chances for parents visitor visa is minimal, even for first time. Can someone confirm this? How Embassy in India reacts to such cases where Immigration is filed for parents and meanwhile they want to travel for some time on visitor visa.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm so glad that I actually can talk to someone about visitor visa to Canada. I'm a landed immigrant from Ukraine, have been living and working in Canada for over 3 years. Now I'm preparing documents for my parents who live in Ukraine to visit me and my fiance.

I have a good position in leasing company and I also work as a beauty consultant part time. However, I'm afraid that it's not enough if I'm inviting the both parents for the very first time even if they are coming just for a month. Would it help if I write down on the invitation that my Canadian fiance that I live with will help with expenses and give it to him to sign it as well? I can show a copy of his T4. I'm just not sure if fiance is considered to be a family....

And the second question, do I have to arrange Heath Insurance before applying for visa as my dad is 71 and my mom is 62 but they both are in good health? Where would I get the insurance for them in Vancouver?

I haven't seen them for over 3 years and I really miss them. Any suggestions will be very appreciated.

Hi tati,

You say you live with your Fiance' at the same location.
Now for starters, if you drive, you must have a driver's license with an address in it. Is the address current? Same as you live at, currently?
You also must have a MSP Care Card issued to you by the BC Ministry of Health. Does your Finace's health card and yours have the same address listed in it. If not, try and get it changed first, to the same address. This will give more intimacy to your relationship.

Do you both have a Joint Bank Account? If not please open one and drop a few dollars into it.

When you marry (or begin living in a marriage-like relationship - see the definition of spouse under Who is Eligible?), you should combine separate MSP accounts into one family account - see Adding a Spouse below.

Does the Revenue Canada Know your current home address?
Does the Revenue Canada Know your Fiance's current address? Is it the same? Please check his T4. and NOA.

Now, have you been living at the same address together for the past SIX months?

If all of the foregoing questions are YES, then I would venture into answering your question if your Fiance' is your Family? Otherwise, wait for another six months before you apply for a Visitor's Visa for your Parents.

If the answer is YES and if your Fiance' is willing to co sponsor your Parents for the Visitor's Visa, then get all of the Papers and fill them up and do get the application in after his signature. (Please do retain a PhotoCopy of the same for YOUR files)
Canadian Immigration might need a medical check before they issue of the Visa, if the Immigration Officer determines that it is necessary.

After they have their Visa to Visit, make proper arrangements for their travel.
When you book the Plane Tickets for your Parents, get all of the details of the travel, Such as the day on which the Travel Begins and the day on which it ends.
Also where the flight Originates and terminates.

TENTATIVELY, talk with RBC Travel Insurance, or a branch of theirs in Vancouver and find out more details about their PAY ASSIST package which covers existing conditions, if they have been stabilized and get a quote for the duration of their travels. It will be about $10/day for EACH. It also depends upon their ages and the duration of their stay. It will be wise to avail the same. (It will not cost more than a days stay in a Hospital here or anywhere, if the need ever arises.)

Hope this answers some of the doubts that you brought up here. Hope you have a great get to-gether.

Good Luck.

Freddie.

Freddie, you are an angel!

Thank you so much for the information! It is very helpful.

I've been living with my fiance together for over 3 years inlcuding the most recent place where we've been living for 9 months. We have the same address on our driver's licences and we actually have joint/family MSP. I'm sure we both have the same address filed in Revenue Canada as well. We don't have a joint bank account though....I guess I will have to open one soon. So, this part is ok. he can be a co-sponsor for my parents' Visitor Visa.

Freddie, when you say "get all of the Papers and fill them up and do get the application in after his signature. (Please do retain a PhotoCopy of the same for YOUR files) ", did you mean that we will have our documents in one package (both will be signing the invitation and provide the same set of additional documents like letter or employment, T4s, NOSs and IDs from each of us)? And then my parents will put info of us both as sponsors in the application? Please confirm.

Another question, my finace is starting his new job in April. It is obvious that my parents won't apply for a visa before then. Should I get a letter from his current employer or I wait till he starts to get the employment letter from his new job? Or get the both? Honestly, he is not very comfortable of asking for a that letter from his current employer....Can I just show T4 for last year and new employment letter?

Regarding the travel/health insurance, should I get it for my parents before they apply for Visitor Visa or after?

I appreciate your time and advice!

Tati

Hi Tati,

You said that: "I have a good position in leasing company and I also work as a beauty consultant part time. However, I'm afraid that it's not enough if I'm inviting the both parents for the very first time even if they are coming just for a month. Would it help if I write down on the invitation that my Canadian fiance that I live with will help with expenses and give it to him to sign it as well? I can show a copy of his T4. If you need a co-signee for the application, then, it is better that your Fiance' does it for you. You can show his income and his bank balance to provide you with the financial support. If there is no space in the application for his signature, then, ask him to write a letter to that effect and get that letter notarized and submit with the application. That ought to get some response from the CHC in Ukraine. And Yes, this way you both become the sponsors.

Please make sure that they have a strong base in Ukraine such as family (Other siblings) a membership in a local group or a social club. Provide all of the details with pictures or good copies there of, to them. Also show, if they have any properties or investments, bank balances etc., and ask them to include a letter with the application saying that they will return back to Ukraine after their trip to BC.

Also provide them with an invitation letter signed by both of you. In that letter provide clear details, such as: their full name, Passport number for each one, date of issue and validity, Place of residence with phone number if any and any thing that will identify them as your Father and Mother, clearly in detail. and both of you sign the same inviting them for a visit for thirty (30) days? Also mention in that letter that you will be providing them with support and assistance in their day to day affairs and will also provide them with medical coverage for the duration of their stay, through the insurance company you contacted. Please write their full address and the the name of the contact with number. That should swing the application in your Parent's favor.

If you are applying today, then your Fiance's employer will be the current one. If you wait till he gets into his new job and you apply for the Visitors Visa after that, then you provide the CHC in Ukraine with the New employer's name. Also get the employment letter from them at the same time with all of the details, such as the nature of the job and salary etc., from them and then submit the same.

The Insurance company will not issue a policy to cover the duration of the vacation, until and after you obtain the tickets with dates on it. It will be for the duration of the trip. Contact them and see the exact number of days after which the premium shoots up. If it is thirty one, then make the trip for thirty days. So, when you get the visa tell them that you will be arranging their trip and then buy the tickets. You also tell them that, you will be contacting them soon. Then give them the exact details with the number of days and pay for them. The Policy ONLY takes effect, from the time, when they BOARD the plane and terminates after they return back.

All of the foregoing are based on the facts of life. Most of the other things function in the manner that I have explained. The legal language uses TEN dollar words and you need a dictionary and an interpreter to understand. I try and make it simple for you to understand and follow. Hope this helps you in getting your life organized and moving smoothly in the future, for both of you as individuals and as a couple currently and in the future.

I could not have said it any better. Have a very happy life.

Freddie.
