There s a police emergency number and there s a non emergency number .

911 is meant for emergency service where you fear violence , break ins or something of grave nature . Police have another non emergency number as well .

If I were in that place , I would have done / said nothing till there was physical violence / teasing in which case I would have called 911 .

Police authorities do not take a call otherwise unless its a prank . In fact they are co operative and understanding . No harm in calling the non emergency police number , explaining the situation to them and letting them take the call .

I agree. However if someone has to make a moment's decision, 911 is usually what comes to mind first.

911 can also guide us wat to do in such circumstances. I am not aware about any non emergency police phone numbers. May be FIDO can let us know. By now he must have adjusted in Toronto.

Non-Emergency

If you require Police assistance, but are not in an emergency situation (e.g. Reporting thefts, vandalism, fraud) or for other situations where no person or property is in immediate danger, please call police non-emergency telephone number at 416-808-2222

You guys can store this in mobile phone as I have done & can use it at any time....

Not only Toronto police, but police in all region have to have such kind of non emergency phone numbers....

911 has a down side . Every call s taken as an emergency and even if you explain the non emergent nature of the call to the representative , police cars coming with blaring sirens can't be stopped which may be risky for the patrols themselves as well as the traffic they overcome .

Surprisingly the person who attends to non emergency calls , attends to the 911 calls also . So its better to call the number and let the Rep make the decision ...... Please do not hesitate to call police when in doubt as more often then not , you would not be bothering them and may help diffuse a potential situation due to your observation . The Reps are helpful and nothing goes against you . (unlike our Pandu Havaldar who would ask for 2 Gandhi jees if he s disturbed for nothing ;) )

IRock ~ thanks for the number . Every province and area should have a different number. I was not aware of the GTA s as I m still settling down .Thanks Lucky284.

There was that story you wrote about the cow you punched(or kicked) in India to avenge the animal that kicked your Dad(or vice versa). If only the Italian (or anyone) knew of your physical prowess he/she would not utter any disrespectful word to anyone in your esteemed presence.
I suggest printing a T-shirt with the slogan ' I PUNCHED A BULL IN TAMIL NADU' and wearing it under your shirt for all future such occasions. Then make the shirt visible at your supreme discretion.

Please do write if you need any more such suggestions.

J3D ,

Would you please keep your mindless rantings to your own good self . As you see , you hardly receive any responses for them . If you don't wish to add on to a thread why bother posting mindlessly ...... I am sure I am not the only one who DOES NOT ENJOY these rants of yours - there s hardly any substance in them ........... please spare us :(

MODERATORS - Please note that these are repeated unwanted personal comments by J3D twice in a row after the MIL thread .

One good thing thats come out of this thread is that we have got the non emergency number which can be very useful for those who did not know about it . As one can see there are people who have discussed this more .
