Hello : I was completely stopped on a red light and this woman hit my car from behind. We had a long argument but she refused to give her license no. and insurance details. I have her plate no. What should I do now ? The damage is not much....minor. But I want to make her understand that by law she has to share that information and can not walk away which she did.

Regardless of how severe / or minor the damage is, you should always call the police just to make sure the facts are documented.

Now if the woman goes to the Police and complains that "you backed into her", it's just your word against hers.

Not sure if reporting this to the police at this point will be of much help (and how it'll affect your insurance). Just hope that the woman has similar reservations and doesn't take this any further.

Just out of curiority, was this woman part of a visible minority group?

Another option within 48 hours of accident is to report it at collission cntr ..
If another person refuses to share the info ,you can file hit and run.
I had been in similar situation few years back . When I reached collission cntr after completing my work the other person was filing a report against myself .
Upon my arrival this person got little nervous and annuled the case with mutual consent . Even though he hit me from back , he was filing as if I hit him and ran ( he refused to give me details on scene and the damages were minor )

always keep a cheap digital camera in your car. and take many pictures of the accident from all angles.

If she has refused to share the details. Call the police and explain them that she is refusing to share the details. They will take the number plate and ask you to go to CRC immediately. If she does not turn within 24 hours, Police can charge the women (1) failing to report.

If it was today then go to CRC and report the matter.

Ashwani, Did you call police at the time of collision?

Other question:
1) As in Ashwani's case if someone reports wrong complain, dose collision center verify with police record?

2) I have read many times in forum that if damage is less than 1000 then police doesn’t get involved. Do they take license plate and other description in that case? or tell both parties to exchange insurance detail?

Thanks
