I am planning a fall color trip (overnight stay) to Algonquin park with my friends. I read the archives on CD and found that GG and Aashu have been to Algonquin. I would appreciate if you guys could answer some of my questions.
1) We are a group of 4 families, all of them with 1-3 yrs old kids except for my family. I am very interested in doing the camping and canoe thing Aashu did but am not sure if this would be suitable for the families with kids. Aashu, can you pls let me know if the camp site had running water/washrooms & electricity near by. Were there kids in your camping group.
2) Aashu, in one of your posts you mentioned that you rented the camp gear there itself. To do this, do we have to make any reservation or can we just go there and get them. Did you have to take firewood or anything else to start a camp file.
3) One of the websites (http://www.400eleven.com/colour-report-algonquin-park.html#algonquin) lists 3 different driving routes for Algonquin. They are North, East & Southern drives. I am planning to do the North drive starting from Huntsville. Following is the suggested route. Do you guys think this is a good route enjoy the fall colors.
“To catch Algonquin glory, follow Highways 400 and 11 north to Huntsville, then take Highway 60 east through Dwight and Oxtongue Lake to Algonquin park where there are many marked nature trails. When leaving the park proceed east on Highway 60 to Whitney. Stay on Highway 60 east to the Barry's Bay and turn right at Highway 62 and south on Highway 62 to Combermere, Maynooth, Bancroft , and Highway 28 south to Lakefield and Peterborough.”
Any help is appreciated,
Cheers
