There are past threads on Algonquin that you can search as well.
In general, from my experience:
- Fall colours are very nice and vibrant there, although not as varied as New England or Canadian Atlantic coast, but it's great for a day trip.
If your main objective is fall colours, make sure you time your trip correctly to coincide with the peak fall colors.
The timing of colors varies year-to-year so keep checking the fall colors report in Weather Network for example.
- For kids of 2 - 6 year range, there's not much to do there, honestly.
It is not like an amusement park.
It's mostly meant for hiking, camping, canoeing and other moderate-to-intense outdoor activities.
In most cases, kids will be bored there (esp. after the 3+ hr. drive from Toronto/GTA).
- There aren't really any places to stay there, esp. if going from Toronto/GTA.
There are a few motels, etc. around but nothing worth writing home about :)
As I said, the park is primarily meant for hiking/camping.
The other option is to book a cottage in that area or vicinity if you really wanna stay overnight.
In your case, it's probably better to plan it as a day trip.
Also, there aren't many places to eat there either - no restuarants or food court inside the park either.
Best to carry sandwiches and snacks if planning a day trip.
