We went to the park a couple of years ago.
The park is beautiful ! What i would recommend is;
Rent a cottage in Halliburton area, (its much cheaper to stay then Muskoka region) that would be your base camp, as there are no cottages in the park to stay, you can only camp !

You can just drive all day in the park, but roads are very limited.
If you can hike or bike you will discover the real beauty of the park.
But make sure you take a LOT of bug repellent as the bugs are HUGE there !
& that’s there home you are invading ! so make sure you are bug proof & so are the kids.
Get some of those gelaybi coils we use back home to scare the mosquitoes, you can find them in dollar stores.
Take some netting jacket or hats if possible. Buy some maps from the local gas stations
they show all the roads ! To find Bears, go to any garbage dumping grounds,
the bears love to check our garbage out ! speak to the gate keeper he will tell you what time
the bears show up.

Make sure you eat HALIBURT Fish there ! its out of this world.

Have fun & let us know about your experience !

i went there once for one week. i was a fantastic experience... though i would never do it again... the park is massive... there are no roads, no stores, and no people. in the 7 days i was there i did not see a single person.

i would not take my family there however. algonquin is FULL of wolves. at night you can hear them howling... they seem to be all around you. there are many bears too. bears can run at almost 30mph, swim and climb trees. in other words, if one attacks you, there is little hope you can get away...

don't want to scare you, but it is a fact. it depends, i suppose, on which part of the camp you go to. i did not see any cottages when i was there. you must bring a canoe and be able to read a map. there are dozens of lakes inside the park. if you get lost, you might be in big trouble.

i was only 17 when i went and when i left the ranger station before entering the park, a ranger told me that there are many rusted out cars of people who underestimated the size / nature of the park and who went in... but never came out (!). maybe he was just trying to scare me. but it made me read my map very carefully :)

Hey GG,

I guess so far you haven't read one of the threads that I started titled, "VACATION DESTINATIONS". Coz if you did, you would have added this post in that thread. My idea was for all fellow members to contribute their experiences abt difft parts of Canada and US, that they may have been. So it can be a great source of info for all of us.

Abt your Q, I have heard that it's a beautiful place, but never been there. I hope you enjoy your trip there. We are going to go to Quebec City and Ottawa for abt 5-6 days in third week of Sept. Any suggestions, pl let me know. And if you don't mind, pl post it under the other thread.

Thanks and regards

You guys scared me!! But I will go there!!!

For now I postponed the trip till next year. As there is only a week left before school opens and as I wanted to go with family, let me plan my trip ahead of time and go there next year.

Thanks for the excellent feedback. I have to hide this post from my wife!!

Regards.
