garvo, one thing they did when i was there was before entering the park, you can go to the ranger station. they organize "wolf howls" at night. a bunch of tourists accompany a ranger aways into the forest then he plays a tape recording of wolves howling. after about 10 min, you can look around you and see that you are completely surrounded by red eyes.

yes...packs of wolves come out of curiosity to see who the 'new kids on the block' are. it seemed dangerous at the time... i was waiting for the pack to simply mob us and devour us, but i GUESS the rangers know what they are doing... he he ... (the wolves are too afraid of the fire the ranger lit to come too close) make sure to try this one out and post your impressions and photos, garvo. happy hunting!

While a lot of ppl tend to camp in the park during summer, for anyone who is a hiking enthusiast, it does make sense to check out the hiking trails (there's about 15 of them) on the park and clearly marked out on the maps. Great to do it during Fall, the changing color of leaves makes it all surreal. If you are not much of a camping enthusiast, you could live at one of the bed and breakfast places in the small towns around the east end of the park (Whitney and Madawaska are 2) and drive into the park every morning.

Is a really very beautiful part of Ontario, definitely worth a visit.

i forgot to add that bears are a major danger in algonquin. a bear can run at almost 30mph, it can climb trees and swim! there is no escaping it. the only hope is to shoot it... a pistol will only anger it as it's hide is 2 inches thick. the only hope is to hit it with a shotgun blast in the heart or head....
