I just got the questionnaire last week and will know in the coming days whether I am selected to be a juror. As a Canadian citizen, this is an obligatory service from which there is no escape lest the circumstances are inevitable to prevent jury duty. Will keep you posted.
Any idea how they choose people?
I am very interested in being called for Jury duty. From the movies that I have seen, it is a very exiting tem. job with food, travel allowance, free stays in hotels (for complex cases) etc...
As i have read in CNN in Simpson case and all, they advertised jury duty and people interested mailed their resume / questioanre filled in and then the lawyers choose the jury which was approved by the judge.
Peace

It is a common misconception that law requires employers to pay for the jury duty time off...... fact is law just requires employers to give time off ... employer is not obligated to pay for it... though generally employer do pay for jury duty time off

excerpts...
"2. What do I do about my job?
Employers are required by law to allow employees time off for jury duty. If your absence would cause serious hardship to your employer, please contact the court office.
3. Does my employer have to pay me during jury duty?
The law does not require employers to pay your salary during jury duty, but some employers have an arrangement to pay your salary. You should speak with your employer to determine the arrangements at your place of employment.
