Dear CD's,
Conrad Black has been found guilty by the jury of 4 charges out of the 13 charges laid before them and is eligible for Max. 35 years prison sentence and millions of dollars in fine.

My Comments about Jury :
While i fully agree that Black should be prosected to the full extent of the law, I am somewhat Skeptical about the capability of the Jury to give this verdict. Remember that the jury are just common people with now understanding of the law and how can one expect them (common people) to understand a complex case such as this and refer the laws in order to give a verdict. There is a clause which says that the Judge can accpet or reject the verdict but i think that the whole process of a jury for complex trials like this is a joke.
I invite CD's views regarding the same.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
you are spending a lot of your work time on reading news and writing these detailed memo...
Please do some work as well
I am glad they found him guilty on any number of charges. That guy should have been put away during 80s for his vindictive vilification of the women reporters who did not tow his line. But Canada is a haven for white-coller criminals. With all their anti-Americanism, I met many canucks who felt the Americans might at last get him into a cell. Well, it takes America to take down low-lives like that. I hope they would lock him up with a couple of rough black dudes for a couple of years in some Chicago Bighouse.

I agree with TK. Issue here is not about Mr. Black being guilty or not. Issue is whether a Jury comprising non professionals ever decide the complicated case like this. My understanding is that most of the alleged frauds were in fact transactions designed to save taxes rather than cheat as Mr. Black was a very significant holder of stake in each of the company and there were full disclosures. Jury, like the one in this case , will be condemning or absolving a person based on their personal prejudices as has been done by a couple of CD based on their postings on this thread. Going by this Stronach of Magna would be in Jail for ever! This is a case of vindictive persecution and rage born out of jealousy though I also , in my personal view consider Black as an arrogant person.
