Hi,
I will be filing for my Canadian Citizenship early next year. Its been 3 years since I moved to Canada from USA. In the US I had an overstay for a brief period. Once I came to Canada, I applied for a US Visa and I got it. Since then I have traveled frequently from Canada to US by road only and never had any problems. I have had about 3-4 I 94 cards in the last three years.....I usually always return the I 94 card before its expiry date. At present, I have an I 94 card which is good till Jan 1st 2009. I need to go to the US for work so I was thinking of flying instead of driving.
My question is this - Can i enter the US on the present I 94 card? Also is the airport immigration more strict than the border immigration?
I dont think I should be having any problems flying into the US but I am always nervous that perhaps the US Immigration officers have more access to information or are more strict....
If anyone has had the same experience as me and flew into the US with an I 94 they recieved from the border immigration officers then please give me some feedback.
Thanks!
Yes I did.
They said you are supposed to return the I-94 when exiting the country. Hence they took the I-94 page from my Passport and isuued a new one on the spot.
So did they ask you a lot more questions than the border immigration officers or just simple questions? I am sure they share the same systems..
For me nothing much. He said "I should have returned the Card when leaving" and showed me that the same is written on the back side.
Also the usual questions like Why you are going etc.
Infact while coming back, at the Airport check in, they asked me if I was coming back soon. Since I said not so soon they took the card away.
When you travel by road, while returning you directly hit the Canadian Immigration, hence there is no opportunity for the US Immigration to take your card back.
