VJ,

Please don't address me as Sir, I'm no Sir, I can tell you that. Just an ordinary guy. For that matter, once you're here in Canada, you don't need to call anybody Sir, people are not used to this. You generally address people by their first names. But like you, I'm from India too and I feel awkward about calling desis much elder to me by their first names, so for desis who're older than me, I usually add a "bhai" or a "sahab" at the end. But that's just my preference, it would be perfectly ok by the norms of this country to call them by their first names (this is what we do in case of all goras here )

I was happy to see this acknowledgement from your name. Since one week, I have started using this website and have been seeing your name quite actively moving. It seems you are one of the creators of this great khajana site

That honor solely belongs to Rashmibhai (Garvo), he does all the work. I help with the moderating and contribute my bit like many others.

This site actually is becoming a thrust/push factor for people like me. Gives a good motivation with various important practical input/resources etc...

Glad to learn that. There are many articles on this site that also act as an eye-opener to a lot of people dreaming of limitless wealth in Canada. Hopefully this is a balanced resource that presents a correct perspective.

I really liked your attitude in the previous post. I know its difficult but I try to think like that everyday, and then location becomes irrelevant.

Dear BL & Raj,

You must have wondered, after the begining where did I disappear?...Actually I have been reading almost all the posts and topics since long now and somehow I was not coming to a final bottom line. If you see my log in record, there would be hardly a day when I have not logged in to canadiandesi.com. However apart from two small rounds with you, I have not posted a single one.

Today, after reading hundereds of posts, I have reached to a clear BOTTOMLINE about my move. "WAIT FOR ME I AM COMING"...I have decided to be in CANADA..If I give you a rough ratio of positives to negatives, I read almost 90 % negative and hardly 10 % positive posts about the canada move. But my belief of always taking the help of positive attitude has enabled me today to say that I would not mind to be in those 10 % guys , who has a better feel of canada.

After a silence of almost 2/3 months, (since a good canadian wellwisher of mine showed me this website), you will see this VJ name appearing on the board quite often now. I am somobody who will always like to be on something..My collegues call me NAVINBHAI (always doing or thinking something new)..and thats the way of life I would have to replicate in the new world. Although I know, its easy to say something without facing the real fire sitting in india, but when I take the support of my past, I always get a motivation. To elaborate, let me tell you...Whenever you start a new mission, think about the past, I mean from the status you gradually came to today's status, and now from here you have to march ahead. Its like if you are standing on the 4th or 5th step of a ladder, you have to tell yourself that you have already cllimbed 1,2 and 3rd steps. You won't believe this helps....

Let me add one more reality of my life...Recently I came across a song and that has become an extension of mine. I relate myself to that song a lot...Its a great motivator for me now..everyday morning when me and my wife are getting ready for office, I listen to this song atleast twice. The song is "DO KADAM AUR SAHI" sung by SOnu Nigam in the film "MEENAXI"..the one which was directed by the great M.F.Hussain. Unfortunately the film came and disappeared, but woh hona hi tha..Majority of crowd need MASALA in India, and this movie was quite a heavy stuff for them. I thoroughly enjoyed the creativity. Listen to this song and you will get it what I am trying to say. Offcourse in the movie the author could not get to his destination..but this song in the background says a lot..

I would keep on writting a lot now...sharing and exhanging in a matured network helps a MASS a lot.

Bye for now..

VJ...

Hi,
That's a very positive attitude and I am sure will be of immense help in getting over the difficulties that one faces here as a new immigrant in a foreign land.
Just thought of letting you know that insurance has always been, and continues to be a flourishing business here. If you have the right attitude, if you are a determined salesman, and can sell insurance, there is a pretty good chance that you will not find the going too difficult. You will perhaps have to qualify in an examination (I do not remember the name) which is not difficult, to be able to sell insurance. If that is what you would like to pursue, then I would suggest that you get that certification asap after you land and go on from there.
I came here 6 years ago when there was none of these IELTS stuff etc. BTW, what is this IELTS? As it seems, the visa process at that time was quite simple. I had applied for immigration by post, and got the visa delivered at home by post in a period of about 8 months from the date that I had applied. I did not even need to visit the CHC for anything. No interview, no intermediate consultant, nothing at all. I wonder how long it takes now from the date you submit your application.

Thanks for all your remarks.

Yes, you are quite right. I am seriously thinking of extending in the insurance industry from where I would leave in INDIA. If you can recollect the name of the certification, please do let me know. I have been in touch with the insurance institute of canada these days, and would try to find more information from them. I have spent 13 years now in Sales/Mktg and especially the last 3 years were the best as I am one of those fortunate pioneers in the recently privatised insurance industry of INDIA.

You are right again , the process now is quite structured and formatted. One has to qualify in various attributes to get the VISA. IELTS is "INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM". You have to clear this exam with various band levels (anything above 7 would get us good points). I got 7.5 overall bands (It has four modules, writting + Reading + Listening + Speaking).

See, I am very clear on one thing, I am gonna land with a plan with the knowledge of worst. After reading various posts, any one who has experienced the canadian journey would easily say that "BOLNA BAHUT ASAN HAI"..but I am trying to put the word "PLANNING". You must have a gameplan of everything before you start. Its not earning money all the times, when you start from a ZERO level. You will have to acquire so many other factors first. It can be sequencially put in this manner,

Landing & inital requirement (SIN, HEALTH CARD, CREDIT CARD, BANK ACCOUNT etc..)
Sudying the geography.
Learning the govt. & other legal living systems
Prepare a strong budget of living to deffine the most workable living cost.
Understand the HR requirements for various job searchs (Resume, consultants, education requirements etc..)
Start an additional canadian education course, which can be crucial to get a job of your interest field.
While studying, can think of a part time job of 4/5 hours,w hich can fetch at least 80/90 % of the budget decided. No problem if remaining 10 % comes from settlement funds. For e.g.

in my case me and my wife are planning together...hence

Monthly budget approx - 1700 CAD
If the part time job can bring approx..1300
Then from settlement fund, only Rs. 400/month would exhaust. Hence it would help us to drag at least 1/2 years easily with this pattern.

Once you finish your studies, then only you should start a serious JOB HUNT. See there are doubly benefits.. ONE due to part time association..you get the word "CANADIAN EXPERIENCE" and second, you get a "CANADIAN EDUCATION CERTIFICATION" also of some field (say in my case INSURANCE).

My idea of writting all these is with one BOTTOMLINE.. " NOT TO RUSH IMMEDIATELY IN THE NEW WORLD TO SEARCH A JOB/ MAKE MONEY"..."YOU HAVE IMMIGRATED, YOU ARE NOT ON DEPUTAION". You can't simply take a new place for granted..I am a cricketer and always believed in one fact.."You have to study the conditions on a new day, the pitch, the weather etc.. "PAHELE KUCHH OVERS SLOW JAYEGI TO CHALTA HAI.EK BAR SET HO GAYE TO BAD MAIN ACCHE RUNS BANTE HAI. I mean to say...You gotta be acquanted with the new world.

I am sorry to have made you and all others who read this bore. And moreover I would like to have more feedbacks (especially from seniors like GG (Rashmibhai), BL, Chandresh, Biomed ), on whether this has some substance or not.

"KARM KIYE JA FAL KI CHINTA NAHI KAR"...this is my "..MANTRA"!!!

And hey last but not the least to all who read..please please listen to the song I have mentioned in my last post. You will get what I am trying to say.

Bye for now...

VJ

Its sad to see that 408 friends saw my last post and not a SINGLE replied or loaded his remarks. Was that due to the heading/subject line of the post?...as it says "TOTAL COST......",..and I have diversified to a different world?

PL. tell me

It should be RIBO I believe. I posted a question on this forum about benefits of giving RIBO exam but no one replied though there are quite a few members on CD who know about this.

Isn't the licensing exam is a minimum requirement? It follows obviously that the benefit of taking that exam is that you will be able to work as an insurance broker!
Here is another link that has a lot more details. Explore...hope it helps.
