Is it type 1 or type 2.?

Is it controlled and monitored on a daily basis?

It is always nice to take coverage. Also explore the Term life policies. 10 - 15 yr renewable ones. Some even refund you the premia, if there is no claim on the policy.
See all of the available policies and features. Choose the one that suits your needs. Contact a few of them or search through the web.

In my books it is a good move, So, go for it.

If I get this right, that protection plan is tied to your \"remaining\" mortgage and hence the the size of protection decreases with time.

As mentioned in previous post, Term10/20 might be a good option - keep your insurance/protection independent of the mortgage. But hey, I'm no expert.
