I just had to pay almost $50 out of my pocket for a small bottle of prescription Nasal Spray....How is this freaking system deemed to be free and fair to all, its basic aim?

Shouldnt it cover at least some part of the Drug cost?

Unbelievable, I am exasperated by Canada.

:( :madgo:

Go south of the border and try out their system .

Let us know if you still feel the same way about canadian system.

Good luck.

I came from the south. I had the "Job" which provided all the insurance I needed.

But that "Job" which provides coverage is elusive till now....

Mercury, i hear you...it can be frustrating here as well.

The point i was trying to make is that here at least there is some coveraget for everyone. Yes, there is a lot of improvement needed, but i dont think it is totaaly correct to call Canadian system useless.

When i was in US, i was fortunate to have an all inclusinve healthcare package but i also know people with lesser paying jobs who had to chose between paying for food / rent or paying for healthcare and medicines.

those are pretty dire conditions , and for a country as mighty as US to have a major segment of population like this speaks volumes.

That way , at least the Canadian system more or less treats everyone equally irrespective of job conditions.

Just my view .

This is something that I was unaware of until a friend informed me of the govt prescription plan for Quebecors(especially if you are unemployed)

http://www.ramq.gouv.qc.ca/en/citoyens/assurancemedicaments/lexique.shtml

I found something for ontario along similar(not quite tho) lines
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/pub/drugs/trillium.html

may not be applicable in your case Mercury but may help some others who visit here.

I don't agree with you MI. Once almost 40% of your hard earned Tax $$ are going towards health care, don't you think we deserve better health care in Canada. In USA you add all deductibles you pay within a year to get health care and you will find that amount is nowhere near the tax you pay here.

I only can say... Bhagwan se prarthna karo ki kabhi tumko Canadian health system ki jaroorat na ho.. agar hui to... bagair kahe hi tum apne shabd wapas le loge.

Thanks and regards.

Well said Biomed. Even though medical system sucks in USA (as most of canadian think) but people are not dying in masses for lack of medical facilities. I don't see much of difference in the attitude of medical personnel whether here or south of border. Here doctors and nurses behave as if they are doing a big favour when they treat you. Without realizing whether they can treat you or not, the first thing they want to do is swipe your OHIP card so that they get their money irrespective of service provided.

Previously the politcians here introduced GST saying all money will go to health care and now Health Premium is being introduced. For what? I don't understand the logic. Probably Cananda is the only country where polician get elected when they say we will increase your taxes.

Oh My Canada !!!!!
