I'm not sure if you can use friend's address for SIN or not, may be other CD's can help. But applying SIN is easy and you get it very fast, you can do this later in the 2 years when your kids are here for University. On application instead of SIN you can put your PR number too. But if you still want to then go ahead for SIN it's not much of a hassle. Sorry I've no idea on the delivery of SIN card.

Hi,

We did our landing yesterday and went to complete our SIN card application today. The process is very simple and it took us 45mins. You need to take your passports and your landing papers along. We have given my Aunt's address so the SIN cards will come in 3 weeks time to her address. A temp address is fine. We even got our SIN numbers today but the cards will follow later.

Hope this info is helpful

Of course it was helpful and I appreciate your feedback.

May I request your feedback on your experience on any other aspect that you may deem useful to new comers?

I am planning my landing next month.

Wishing you all the best.

Cheers. :)

Hi CDs,
Appreciate if someone could recommend some affordable hotels/furnished apartments in downtown Toronto to stay for 5 days in September first week, whic has Indian restaurants in the neighbourhood. We are planning to just land and do sight seeing and probably open a bank a/c and return back.

Hi CDs,
At last we have taken a decision based on the advice of senior CDs to settle down in Toronto, since our elder son has received admission in Ryerson University. We are planning to locate in North York Area since according to a person whose son is also in Ryerson, this is at a short commuting distance to Ryerson. If any one knows of 2 bedroom apartment/condo in North York close to station for rent, we shall be interested to rent, from Middle of August.Hope this area is safe and has Desi Community, Stores and Restaurants.

Thanks

Hi,
This is to thank all the seniors who gave input for our landing and to give info for those planning to land soon.

We landed on 8th of August and everything has gone fine so far.

1. Immigration at Pearson Airport took longer than expected. (2 hrs)
Goods to follow list prepared in advance impressed the customs officer and
he did not ask about the contents of the baggages we were bringing in.
....You can bring in anything except meat and plants
2. SIN and Bank a/c was done on the first working day after landing (Monday)
Note to new comers- Bring in 50% of fund as Travellor cheque or cash since it will be credited to your account on the same day. Drafts take 2 weeks to 40 days. My Dollar draft on SBI Toronto needs 40 days according to TD.
You need to show a balance in your account equivalent to 1 year rent if you need to rent an apartment.
3. Found an apartment near to Subway station and signed agreement.
Note: Most landlords will lease from the first of next month only. So when you make temporary accommodation arrange upto first of next month.
4. G1 done on 17th.
5. Regarding Health card and Child Benefit, planning to do after moving to rented apartment.
6. Schools-has taken appointment to catholic school for test to high school admission.

General notes: Most airlines allow only 2 bags of 23 kgs + 1 hand bag of 7 kgs. If you have more than 2 checked baggages they will charge you CAD.50 per piece even if the total weight is less than 46 kgs.
It is better to get your passports corrected with Surname and First name in the right places (First line -Surname in Indian Passports) before sending to CIC for Visa and COPR.
Overall we are impressed by our experiences so far. Still we have to face the hard parts ie; the winter and jobs.
