Hi guys
Drain of the kitchen sink is choked. Is there any thing available which can clean the pipe. I don't want to open the drain plug on the U trap as I am not sure that I will be able to put it back properly.
Thanks
Get a bottle of Dranex and follow instructions on the label.

Generally when kitchen drain is plugged solutions dont do any good . Solutions are good to use on regular basis when the drain is not plugged . This will prevent drain to be plugged . If in your case dranex doen't happen to work try snake thru U trap ( that is the only solution ) . If you dont have a snake and want to buy one , go to home depot and buy Rigid .
Hope that helps .

Growing Old Is Mandatory ..Growing UP is Optional
Buy a brand new Rubber Plunger at the Dollar store. It has a rubber cup at the bottom and a short (14"} wooden handle.
While you are at the same place buy a pack of dollar strainers to hold the larger particles back. It is the same size as the sink plug.
When you get back home, if it is dual sink, block one side and ask some one to hold it shut, so that no water will go down and no drainage will return back from the under side. On the side that you are going to work, fill about 4 inches of water. See if it stands. If it does then the drain is plugged solid. If it drains atleast a little, then you have some hope of succeeding in the process.
Let the 4 inches of water drain slowly. While it is draining, use the rubber cup over the drain and plunger the drain. The stuff that is plugging the pipe will start moving back and forth. (Like regurgitating} the drain will start to function slowly. Keep at it for a few minutes and if the water level is going down, then start opening the tap and run the water and keep plunger-ing the drain alternately and let the blocked stuff go down the drain line and keep doing till you see a smooth flow down the drain.
Do the same to the second side also. While you are doing the second side, close the first one and block it. Follow the same procedure as above.
It will pay to use a spoon of chemical once a week to keep the grease and other materials from clogging. See what is the best suited for you. Some homes with children should never ever use chemicals, due to safety issues. Even otherwise avoid using chemicals.
If the drainage system is totally blocked, then you will need some mechanical device like the "RIDGID" snake or the "RotoRouter" a system of mechanical means of cleaning, using powered equipment. Even then it will be cheaper than a service call from a plumber.
See how badly it is blocked after the preliminary investigation.
Good Luck, "Mister Handyman".
Freddie.

Sometimes a box of baking soda works. Pour on the drain, leave for sometime and then pour a little vinegar.
There is a liquid you get at Home Hardware for 7$. Its called CL. It has sulphuric acid in it and will burn through almost anything organic. I could actually smell it burining through all the food and smoke coming out of the drain and it cleaned the drain in 3 mins. Much better than drainex.
Try that before trying anything else.
