Our PR cards are expiring in April 09 and we are in the process of applying for renewal . We meet residency requiremnt (2 out of 5 years), however came accross following confusion have while filling the forms . Any advise or information based on personal experience will be appreciated :
After initial landing we went back to India and stayed there for almost 2 years before final move to Canada and have been living here ever since .
We have been to other countries during the 2 years period we were in India and while filling the absences from Canada in the PR application, do we need to specifiy details of all those trips we had from India to any third country and back to India or can we just mention one absence of 2 years from Canada and write that we were in India . We meet the residency requiremnt however just wanted to make sure how much detail is needed for PR application and later for Citizenship application as well.
Thanks in advance

Please provide them with the exact dates of your travels. It will be stamped in your Passports too. The main reason being, you will have to account for all of these later when you go for your citizenship. Also if you resided there for six months or longer, you will be asked to submit a Police Clearance Certificate for those Countries also. So try and obtain one if the stay was longer than SIX months. This is to help you now and prepare you for the future.
Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie ,
If after PR we have stayed at a place > 6 months , at what stage do we need to provide PCC ?

Thanks Freddie,
I guess I have the same question as Fido , when do they ask for the Police report and is it a rule or done randomly .
I know that you are finger printed and Canadian background checks are done etc, but never heard of Police clearance from other countries for PRs .

Freddie---The entire discussion is centred around renewal of PR card. Even I have not heard of PCC for renewal of PR card.
I hear you clearly.
Sorry about it. I wanted the OP to provide the exact dates that he sees as stamped in his Passport. The main reason being they do check them against his Passport at a later date. If he does that everything will fall in place. Please see the renewal form and you will see that they are very specific about it and I don't want anyone to complicate the situation.
NOW, it is to his advantage if he can obtain a Police Clearance Certificate for the places at which he stayed over a period of Six months, which would help him in the future. This is not a requirement now (Currently) when he applies for his PR card or for the renewal. Sorry if this caused some concern with the group. It is to prepare him for the future. I hope this is clear now.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Freddie.
