Even nowadays I hear that in Secondary School in Canada homeworks are instructed by teachers on blogs and students do that in blogs on computer. So I think next generation will forget to write with hands. Man it look likes they only know to do a signature with hands only. and if imagine that next to next generation has to use thumb to even sign. So again square one back to stone age.

This is so true. I like writing things, be it notes for kitchen, grocery lists, things to do, notes in meetings, notes for the assistant (reminders)...I like writing. Trying hard if kids can also have a good handwriting, its a boost when many North Americans or anyone in general sees a handwritten note and says "Wow your handwriting is so good"! But still it hasn't remain that beautiful the way it was in India.

I agree we may be losing our handwriting skills , but aren't we gaining keying skills ? In a way now a content is handwriting independent especially in examinations.

You mean type-writing skills? Maybe so...

But if I remember correctly - this can be googled - a person's handwriting say a lot about the person itself. It has close ties to the nature of an individual.

And there's elegance to handwriting. There's personal touch to handwriting. Of course, you don't actually need to handwrite these days. It is an obvious/apparent observation.

But we can step back and sort of think why our teachers/parents used to stress on handwriting. And the BBC article delves on these and many such issues as well.

In the current world, where no one has any time for anyone else, moving away from handwritten messages/notes/letters just is one of the contributing factors to a society that is increasingly becoming detached.

In addition to not being able to handwrite that well at all....how many here can/cannot write in their vernacular? I bet this is even a bigger challenge :)

I agree its good to see a well hand written note .

But on the flip side , exam takers are at an inherent disadvantage while writing if their writing is not good , however good their subject matter may be ..... as against someone quite the opposite ... having a good writing and not so good subject matter may place one at an ironical advantage ....................

Keying neutralizes all those variances and brings everyone on the same page ................ Plus .... you don't need to tune yourself , if some one's writing is fancy , keyed / typed notes are easier to comprehend . Hand writing is not a correct parameter of one's intellect .... its just practice based .....

Never said it had anything to do with intellect...if it was, I'd be the biggest idiot.
