Thank you Desibabu for your reply...your message gave me hope; hopefully my hearing date is close...Did the judge mention the reason of this long wait? What did he ask you during the interview??

After your hearing, do you think you can now tell how the hearing dates are assigned (say that I submitted my RQ documents 3 months after you did, do you think my hearing would be 3 months after yours?)

Thank you for your insight!

Just FYI. Citizenship card is officially known as Citizenship certificate and is handed over to you on the Oath day.

The citizenship card and the certificate are different.
The Card is a wallet sized laminated card.
The certificate is a long form, A4 size paper.
Only the card is valid for applying for a passport.

If you look at the back of your card, it says 'Certificate of Canadian Citizenship' . On the bottom, it says - This is to certify that....

So, even if it's a card, it's officially called as 'Certificate'. The A4 size paper only bears your name and no other particulars. So, you can't call it a certificate. So, Card and Certificate are the same.

Passport office will ask to see the card. Indian consultate wants to see the paper given during citizenship oath ceremony.

I think you should be able to apply on the same day if you get your form ready with your photos and arrange for a guarantor to sign.

I'm sorry they are different.
The CIC people refer to the wallet size card as Citizenship Card and the long form paper as the certificate.
Even when you apply for the passport, they ask for Card and not the certificate.
There is also one very important difference between the card and the certificate.
The certificate contains the date you became a citizen, whereas the card doesn't.
The citizenship certificate is is ONLY document (I believe) that shows the date you became a citizen.
Last month I have been thru this process so everything is still very fresh in my mind.
All the folks at the CIC office kept referring to Card and Certificate.

Nope.
But I had called CIC office many times during this time and they said that it's just very busy.
And the office processing my case is one of the busiest in Canada.
It takes about 2 years to get a hearing with a judge there.

Questions about rights and responsibilities of citizen, some basic questions about Canada, politics, geography and history.
Mostly stuff in the book.

I don't know what is RQ.
Sounds like your case is different.
But ys if all you are waiting for is hearing then it's possible your date will soon follow.
btw the hearing date is calculated not from the date of application but from the time it is determined that hearing is needed.
in my case that was the date of the test i.e. Oct 2007.

I found that one can apply for the passport after the oath.

Is it better to get

If you anticipate very heavy international travel, you can go with 48 pages. But for most cases, 24 is good. Typically, if you need a visa stamped, those countries would look for 2 empty pages. I have traveled extensively and have 3 or 4 visas for India and still my passport has 5 blank pages.
