Want a practical advice from people knowledgeable about Brampton area specially.
My daughter got a speeding ticket yesterday after coming out of 407 somewhere around Georgetown. Clocked at 82 on 60 zone, ticketed for 70 with $40 fine and no demerit points (but mention of actual speed of 82 on the ticket).
Talked to my insurance broker who said that she being under 25 is enjoying a "steer clear" discount presently of about $320 per annum, which is reviewed each November, and this discount is removed once the driver turns 25 (which shall be next year). This ticket might result in removal of discount soon after November, but will not affect much otherwise since we have been carrying the policies in our household of about 10 years now and with no specific problems. (two similar small tickets in last ten years).
So from Insurance point of view, I am not worried much except removal of discount in December renewal. However, since the review is in Novemeber, I would like to delay the payment of fine so that the ticket is not shown on records at the time of review.
I am thinking to ask for a court hearing now, but pay the fine later without going to the court which can help delay the payment/record. The questions are:
1. What is the experience for Brampton - how soon the hearing date can come up? If she files for court hearing say around end of Oct, or beginning Nov - can the date come up within November?
2. Once I have chosen the appeal route, can I still plead guilty at the same level (70 on 60 zone) and just get away by paying the fine?

You have 15 days to file for court hearing. Once you get the date, just before 10 days of the hearing date, can go to the court office and ask for another deferred appointment as you are not able to attend the court on that date. You can still bargain on hearing date for further reduced fine.

Thanks Delhite. Just another clarification for my question 2 - since all I want is deferment of payment, once I choose to file for court hearing, can I still go back and (not bargain but) just pay the fine shown on the ticket (70 on 60) or will I have to pay the fine as per actual reading (82 on 60)

Once you choose to file for court hearing, you can pay for 70 on 60 on the day of court hearing and you have to go to court on that day. Before putting up the case in front of the Judge, the PP will talk to you and try to make a final attempt to settle it amicably without Judge's involvement. At that time, you can ask that you want to talk to the Police officer who ticket you. If you are lucky and officer is not there, you will go free. If the officer shows up, you can request him or to PP to reduce the fine further and say that it will be hard on you to pay this much fine. Now, either they will reduce it further or ask you to pay 70 on 60 fine.
The chances of fine going back to 82 on 60 will only arrive if you don't agree to pay the 70 on 60 fine or challenge the ticket. In that case, the matter will be decided by the Judge.

Thanks a lot guys. As my intention is not to go to the court but simply delay paying the fine, I will then apply for court date, and then payoff the fine later in November before the court date (if I am unlucky to receive it within November!!)
