Heloo friends,
I finally have come to your great city of Toronto. This time i have come for good and hope that i dont have to move again.
The first thing i did this morning is to go out and buy a copy of Toronto star ...to my surprise in the main section itself there were 2 big articles on co-op programs for new immigrants....it seemed very relevant for this forum so i am providing the links
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1079824207497&call_pageid=970599119419

now, we all know that newspapers sometimes hype up some stories but still ....it doesnt seem that co-op programs are as useless as it has been labled in some threads of this site..
what do you all say ?
Samir

What can be imagined, can be achieved.
I think this is really important information for newcomers who are in a position to take advantage of such programs.

Dear all,
well I am no one to say anything about this Co-op at
all as I came to canada without any job and got a job
in my own feild within 2 months time. my wife is
working as a co-op with Royal bank, she completed her
coarse in dufferin peel adult learning centre it was a
great experience according to her, working and
learning with adult learning center. She was then
placed in royal bank but the situation over there is
very frustrating for her. the person who is training
her her once a week at meadowville center main branch
is always ignoring all the co-op students, trying to
show them that they donnot actually belong to Royal
bank but basically a liability on the bank and her
rude rather shrewd attitude towards the co-op
employees is turning their will and determination to
do something and achieve career goals into frustration
and a kind of depression. My wife is an trained bank
professional having 2 years hands on banking CSR
experience and above of all she is an MBA. where as
the other students completing training with her are
marely high school students. but once again the
respect which is suppose to be due is no more there
for Co-op. do not give them hopes that they will be
treated in a respected manner even if they are placed
also. My question is: Is this what canada has to offer
in terms of Co-op program? and is this the moderator
of this group is promoting? and incase of prejudice
behaviour who should a person report to?
