I decided to immigarte to Canada in 1997-98 having heard from numerous people (about Canada Australia and NZ) as :
Even if you know how to handle a mouse, you will be given job as a software engineer
The dole (Social security) is enough for beer, apartment rent, eating outside, car, TV, visit to India every year+ $1000 savings every 3 months.
Schools, Library, day care is free
If you are unemployed, you will get various things free , like free Milk and Burgers in MacDonalds etc....
However, after immigrating to Canada I found all things false and that the only jobs that were available to us was the left over jobs by the cdn. locals (except IT, Accounting and Finance).
I was under the impression that I was wrong until I read this article from the Toronto star today :
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/633385
I quote :
Alloy, 63, said he immigrated to Canada from Jamaica in 1969. He is married with a daughter and holds bachelor degrees in commerce and tourism, and a real estate licence. He has no formal legal training.
In 1990, he said, he was offered a position as a justice of the peace as a political favour after campaigning for a successful Ontario Legislature candidate.
"A presiding position came up and I didn't apply," Chang Alloy said. "Somebody asked me if I was interested. I said, `Does it mean more money?'
Public records show that Chang Alloy made $178,000 last year as a justice of the peace while continuing to work as a real estate agent.
End of quote from the Toronto star
Looks like those who informed me about the benefits of immigration were not totally wrong , as I had belived.

I feel competition as well as working hours in IT are lesser here then in India.

Fido.
Quote:I wonder what the job posting for a "Justice of Peace" looks like
Ontario's 325 justices of the peace preside over virtually all bail hearings and most criminal remand courts, and perform other functions.
[snip]
Since 1992, seven have faced disciplinary hearings. Three cases resulted in a removal recommendations, of which one is being appealed. Two resulted in other types of penalties. In two cases, complaints were not established.
