Hello Friends,

We are in process of making the 'goods to follow list'
We are living in Dubai.

I know Electronics does not make sense ..

But I would like to know what really makes sense that is expensive in Canada??

Look forward to receiving some advice

Thanks Much

If you have some really good and expensive furniture, that is good to bring. If there are other bulky and/or expensive items like jewellery, antiques etc.. which you would like to bring in later, you should put it in goods to follow list.

Initially when you are landing, you do not have your own place and hence should carry the bare minimum requirements with you to survive. All other luxuries and valuables should be in the goods to follow list.

Good luck.

Hiren

Why not? I borught a lot of electronics and they are all working fine here - including a multi-system TV and PAL VCR (since I have a few family tapes on PAL).

If you have, or want to buy some good furniture, bring that from the east.

Jewellery, of course.

Your personal things like clothes, photographs, videos.

Crockery, if you think it is nice (and since you live in Dubai, I would assume it would be nice).

Crystal

Bed sheets if you have them for your existing beds - the sizes are a bit different here.

Can think of some more - depending on whether you are bringing in a container or not.

Helo Chandresh & hchheda,

Thanks for taking the time to reply,

The reason I mentioned the Electronics were no point because I read a lot of postings here that adapters did not work or Appliances did not function due to voltage difference etc so thought why waste shipping money

Re the furniture I read a post about moisture content in furniture from East/Dubai was very high and hence tends to crack because moisture is easily absorbed in that cold weather...

We do not plan on getting existing furniture but New flat packed pieces if we do get furniture...I dont know how the Customs will look at it ? because it can be considered new and not pre owned.... its confusing really...

We travel next week, any more pre landing tips, are welcome .

Chandresh I would be glad to have a list of all the items you can think of ,We can get a container if required and is not costing an arm and a leg lol ...

Thanks for your advice looking forward to more FREE advice:)

My advice :

If you have used TV which operates at 100V to 250V you can bring here. I had used 42" LCD in Middle east and it works fine here. Other electronic items are not working, though i used 220v to 110 v inverter.

Electronic items are expensive here in canada compared to Dubai.

It is worth to bring new Mixer/Wet grinder which will operate in 110v.
This is available for purchase in Dubai. Check with LULU Super market in Karamah.

The prices of IKEA furnitures are more or less same. The difference is +13% tax in canada.
You have to spend money for shipping if you bring from there.

Best of luck.
